Re: Why is Buddhist scripture including Theravada so vast?

An unabridged version of the pts books are days or a week away from being released. What's this? Where can I find more information about this please? This is work in progress. We will release a beta copy soon. You can use this work.. but please reload it when it gets released (probably next week). ...

Re: Why is Buddhist scripture including Theravada so vast?

An unabridged version of the pts books are days or a week away from being released. Normally when you read the suttas, you will se three dots or “pe” in the original Pali. That means you should repeat the lines with the proper substitution. So the texts are very condensed. I teach all of the time in...

Kauai Buddhist Experiment Summary

For those of you who have been following me on the experiment of bringing Theravada to Kaua'i, Hawai'i without any formal invitation and without any monastery, it is now coming to a close. I might be back later, but I will leave this Monday and eventually reach Myanmar again. Link to that post is be...

Re: Origin of Pirit Strings? (Apparently, not the Pali Canon)

We have used sand in Sri Lanka. It is good for spreading around the outside of the building because it will “stay” longer. The main thing is to remind oneself that they are following the Buddha’s teachings. In this Jataka the Bodhisatta was wearing the thread “on his brow” or forehead. A good remind...

Re: Origin of Pirit Strings? (Apparently, not the Pali Canon)

Here you will find a jataka tale where a thread and sand was given to the bodhisatta by a Pacekka Buddha. (Edited from string to thread and sand)

Volunteers Needed for digital PTS project

PTS (Pali Text Society) Sutta collections are being made into sutta ebooks from the Buddhadust.net website. Volunteers are needed to quickly run spell checker and skip all UK spellings and Pali words. Need to cut and paste an excerpt and bold the misspelled word and list the sutta. It is best to set...

Re: Interview: Monk Sits 24 Hours

You can believe or disbelieve as you wish. I am no longer in the same country as this monk and it was done a long time ago. Many monks can sit for long times at this place. There is another monk I could see in the meditation hall who continues for hours after the 4 hour meditation session is finishe...

Re: Interview: Monk Sits 24 Hours

interviewer didn't see him meditating 24 hours in a row. And of course there is no video record either
You don't know monks.. especially this one. He says he moved his legs a few times (in 24 hours). It is all true. He also later did 48 hours.

A Venerable Subhuti was mentioned in the interview, was that you at the same monastery. I did the interview and I am Bhante Subhuti so it was not me. The...

TTS of Anguattara Nikaya (Numerical Discourses)

I am a big fan of Text to Speech. I have compiled the Anguttara Nikaya by Ajahn Sujato. This version was the easiest to compile since he does not have any footnotes. I must admit, I do like some of the words chosen in this version. I do however like footnotes and the commentaries, but it just does n...
