Re: Vinaya Comparison of Monastery Allowances

Samana Johann3 , Few people know about Cambodia as a place where foreigners can live or ordain. What is you monastery name and location. Do they use money? Perhaps you can fill out the table with the topics included according to such a monastery you live in. You should be open about it. It is not a ...

Re: Vinaya Comparison of Monastery Allowances

Everything I say is in the BMC. What is not in the BMC, the the reason why it is not followed by "other" traditions. Everything mentioned is public knowledge and I double checked with another monk who is well informed of the Thai Forest Traditions.. There are no names mentioned but it is the way of ...

Re: Vinaya Comparison of Monastery Allowances

Do all branch monasteries of Wat Pa Pong exclude non Wat Pa Pong Monks from Patimokkh? If that is the case now it has not always been the case . In Thailand, it is practiced for a few months until they think you are "fit". They even strip you of seniority. The international wpp monasteries allow th...

Re: Vinaya Comparison of Monastery Allowances

I like to know how these rules are observed in Ven. Thannisaro's monasteries
All of the discussed allowances are from the BMC which he wrote. He is Dhammayut.
I have never asked him about the Ajahn Mun book.

Re: Vinaya Comparison of Monastery Allowances

Obviously, it cannot cover all monks from Dhammayut. Wks is not very English-friendly. They are also an exclusive study monastery. For practice they either go to Pa-Auk or a retreat center down the street which is based on the four postures. Some of their monks helped set up the Thai Pa-Auk. It was ...

Vinaya Comparison of Monastery Allowances

New article: Compares special allowances by tradition. The BMC is based on the Thai Tradition. I include Dhammayut and the Ajahn Chah (Wat Pah Pong) tradition. I also include Wat Khao Sanamachai and Pa-Auk which follow the commentaries and abhidhamma meticulously. Na-Uyana is also similar too. I giv...

Re: Should online Bikkhus disclose their identity?

lay people and monks should disclose their Identity. They should own up to what they say. especially those who attack others. They do that because there is no moral shame and no moral fear. That is how it flame and trolling happens.

Re: Why Are Monks Bowls Black?

I explained the Thailand unfinished color of stainless steel and why they don't do it. In the forest tradition, they still burn the bowl to discolor it. Sri Lanka forest tradition (galduwa or na-uyana) burns the bowl black. Monks rarely use their bowls in Sri Lanka . They will be white color most of...

I doubt I will be responding to other people's posts and questions again... even if it is an Abhidhamma question. Perhaps I will just post my own stuff here or let others do it.

Re: What exactly is Ekagata. (One pointedness)?

When I said , "You are your own critic", I was talking about your insistence for "sutta only" yet you admitted that the in-breaths and out-breaths would interrupt a concentrated mind. Therefore I said, "you are your own critic." As far as criticising being wrong. Hmmm. "You are your own critic." You...

Re: What exactly is Ekagata. (One pointedness)?

I will try to address all questions: The question now as pe DD here is whether we can say Ekaggata for the one-pointedness of the unwholesome consciousness. Another question is whether we can use the term Ekaggata for the one picture frame. Jhana and Bhavanga are the only types of consciousness that...
