If by perception you mean sanna, then I would say no, since sanna is just recognition (including the recognition of vedana).
I agree, but doesn't vedana influence what we perceive and how we perceive?

Does vedana condition perception?

Re: Skeptical of Samsara

I get where you're coming from. People with logical brains often need evidence before they can believe in something, so practicing something like Buddhisms can be difficult if you have these doubts. I had similar doubts when I first started practising, but I decidided to practise anyway and see wher...

So you appear to be saying it is pointless to have interpretations of DO that actually lead to actual knowable liberation?
You can have a new interpretation, just be wary of posting it here. You'll probably get condemned for it.

Re: The names of sutras in which 12 nidanas are sorted for 3 lives

The DO suttas are somewhat ambiguous, and it's all a matter of interpretation. There is no consensus here, just a lot of competing theories - multiple lives, single life, multiple moments, etc. I would be sceptical about anyone claiming to have the "right" answer, or anyone proselytising a particul...

Re: No right or wrong (karma)

...'good' and 'bad' are our inventions. Not something intrinsic to nature. This is true. One person may view an action as a "bad" while another person may see nothing wrong with that action. So these are views and opinions. However it comes down to the result of that bad action. So a person does so...

Re: Hello, I need help understanding "desire"

The main type of desire you want to concentrate on is desire of the senses. These almost always lead to suffering.

Dry out that which is past, let there be nothing for you in the future

Dry out that which is past, let there be nothing for you in the future

Sn 4.15
This is a line from one of my favourite suttas. I would be interested in people's interpretations of this particularly where he says "let there be nothing for you in the future".

But the 4 rupa jhanas, when rightly practiced, constitute the 8th factor of noble Path. If one rejects these, by calling these special attainments, is it not a rejection of the noble Path?
Yes. I agree. Some people say you don't need the Jhanas. It's the eight factor!

Why do the suttas refer to Brahmins so often?

That's what I don't get. You can have the intention to act on a feeling...but does a person intend to have a particular feeling?

Mindulness of Breathing - Thanissaro

Listening to a Thanissaro talk on the sixteen steps of mindfulness of breathing, he says the following on the feeling tetrad: The next four steps have to do with feelings. First you train yourself to breath in and out sensitive to rapture. The word “rapture” here can also mean “refreshment”. Ask you...
