Re: The Five Khandas

What chariot example does not convey is the dependent origination . But is does. Why don't you consider trying harder to use yoniso manasikara to read the suttas clearly? Why now do you assume 'a being'? Mara, have you grasped a view? This is a heap of sheer constructions: Here no being is found. J...

Re: Americans will never give up their guns.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BL0f4HrFfI For me, the reasoning in this video is unsound & not particularly convincing. The amount of people using mental health (which is from where the statistics derive) is probably dependent upon the availability & affordability of mental health services. Just ...

Re: The Five Khandas

By the way in relation to OP, using chariot as an example is quite weak as the chariot does not have consciousness. The "chariot" example is from the suttas. Why now do you assume 'a being'? Mara, have you grasped a view? This is a heap of sheer constructions: Here no being is found. Just as, with ...

i suspect annihilation view Why? Where do the suttas say annihilation view is the view of impermanence? In SN 56.11, when the stream-enterer realised: " All subject to arising is subject to cessation ", was that annihilation view? In SN 22.59, when the Buddha taught in his 2nd sermon: " Every aggre...

There have been 578 visits to this thread. Assume 40 were mine (since I wanted to know how my thread was progressing) that leaves 538 visits .. assume others too made repeat visits and only 20% of the visits were unique (20% of 538 visits were from different members) .. that means 538 * 20% = 108 m...

The business/livelihood of selling weapons

A lay follower should not engage in five types of business. Which five? Business in weapons, business in human beings, business in meat, business in intoxicants, and business in poison. Re: Challenging the Sotapanna cannot break the Five Precepts View

I’m not suggesting a sotapanna can regress into states of deprivation, I’m saying they can break precepts which lead to agitating mind to level where they cannot work at the depths for liberative wisdom to arise and further free them from the subtler bonds. Anatta is not like this. A sotapanna is a...

Re: Challenging Position "Sotapanna Can break Five Precepts, it is possible, it can happen."

I think it is very difficult to answer this question when the fetter of sīlabbata-parāmāsa leads to believing taking the requisite of medicine to cleanse the body of an intestinal worm is breaking the 1st precept.

Re: Challenging the Sotapanna cannot break the Five Precepts View

There is an assurance that the Sotapanna will never be born in an animal womb. Has the Sotapanna got the special privilege that s/she can break the five precepts but will never be born in the animal womb? Greetings dhammafriend SarathW I would assume the answer to your thoughtful question is "Yes" ...

This individual may have a child who comes in contact with lice, you may have to apply shampoo which kills them, you kill, your sila has been broken. Sorry. But the Dhamma is being discussed rather than refuting "you". A stream-enterer has given up the view of "you".

Re: Challenging the Sotapanna cannot break the Five Precepts View

What a load of non-sense.... AN 10.61 says after hearing the Teachings, the faithful person engages in ' yoniso manasikara ' (careful examination) about the teachings. AN 9.7 literally says it is "impossible" for an arahant to break the five precepts but the suttas appear to not literally say this ...

Stream winner is a start, still so much craving and aversion left. How is this individual to maintain perfect precepts with so much ignorance remaining? Show me where my speech is questionable. The majority of posts on the forum are questionable in being right view. I am glad that you are impressed with my virtues so much that u would want evidence. I showed no evidence of being impressed. If you are not a Stream-Enterer, I can't really honor you. ...
