Re: Boys in cave: the meditation perspective

Hi Mike Mike whats your problem, I wasn't talking about Thai Friends I said to get a clearer picture I would need to speak to the locals, where did I actually mention Thai friends i was talking about putting false ideas, concepts and words into peoples minds, cultures and language structure when th...

Re: What experiences happiness in Nibbana?

To me, when someone says something like this: Buddha, alone of all teachers and gurus, taught total and complete selfless ness', this is abusive. Wake up. :tantrum: Well, that's essentially what he is reported to have said himself. :focus:  Mike So someone gets to repeat this as truth ? And,...

Re: No meta-discussion opens the door to propaganda and irresponsible behavior

And you're quite right. Someone who promotes something that they don't appear to be practising themselves doesn't deserve to be taken seriously. It's not just that. Allowing for an atmosphere of "Do as I say, not as a do" appears to lead to general mistrust, cynicism, jadedness. Yes, that's often a...

Abusive posts and material removed. Contributors, please remember that abusive language disrupts discussion and will not be allowed. Re: No meta-discussion opens the door to propaganda and irresponsible behavior

I believe that we are free to politely argue against the content of a post, but not the person - there is a big difference. And you believe that all ad personams/ad hominems are always fallacious, despite the arguments against such a generalization presented in the OP? Of course not. It's clearly u...

Re: Boys in cave: the meditation perspective

Hi markandeya, Clearly, translating some terms into English is fraught with difficulty. However, I suspect that you are over-interpreting here: Ghosts ? anything subtle in the Old Western Christian monopoly would be seen as ghosts or spooky. Ghosts is a term my Thai friends use when speaking English...

Re: Where is the Buddha?

Interesting. I've seen such criticism of ajahn maha bua for his views on anatta, but not direct attacks on thanissaro other than simply dismissing his anatta interpretation. I'll search through the forum a bit more. See, for example: https://dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=11079 https://dhamma...

Re: Where is the Buddha?

Ironic how the forum generally talks quite nicely of Thanissaro Bhikkhu normally and simply sets aside interpretations he has that they disagree with. If only such civility was equally applied to all other groups and teachers with "heretical" views. It's not clear whether (a) you don't want members...

Re: Looking for Thai resources

For dhammaduta. Perhaps some dhammapadas or other good, simple content. If you could provide your input about your suggestion if you know thai, whether it's a suitable translation. Some of the English translations of dhamma can be very bad. If you find anything on amazon especially, that will be gr...

Re: Krishnamurty-inspired off-topic posts

It doesn't account for the nature of thinking, though. More time is spent on this forum arguing concepts, thinking about thinking. One way is right, another is wrong. Nothing is ever really accomplished. You don't need a forum to understand this. It is really a form of addiction, sorry to say. You ...

Re: Krishnamurty-inspired off-topic posts

Many people like to think. They are sure that they can think themselves out of all dukkha. Ain't gonna happen. It is like a replacement therapy, exchanging one set of ideas for another. I agree. However, you seem to be assuming that Buddhist practice is just about thinking (which I don't think is a...

Re: Krishnamurty-inspired off-topic posts

Forget what I say and just read some conversations with U.G or look at the video I first posted in the other thread. You don't need me as a mouthpiece for U.G. If you can relate to what he says, fine. If not, just move on. IT was never my intention to be some kind of interpreter of U.G. I can just ...

Re: Piya Tan's Dharmafarer.org website is in the process of moving.

Perhaps you could ask him. I have no particular connection with him, I'm just passing on the news. It's a pity he hasn't had better support for organising his work in a way that would be useable for other purposes. There was some discussion on sutta central about how it would have been nice to use h...
