Thanks Bhante. All sound like sensible reasons.

What is the reason there is no internal and external dichotomy in regards to consciousness?
Does consciousness have a location?

Re: Forum Problem?

Thanks Lucas - but must admit the surrounding orange vertical bars and the orange around Dhamma Wheel are too lurid for my taste. I also think.. I think it was better as it was before .. :anjali: I also think the current yellows and oranges are a bit harsh, and it would look more pleasant if they w...

Re: Forum Problem?

That's a relief!

Another setting that has got lost is opening links in a new tab. Not a big issue, but it is convenient.

Re: Sankhara as volition or extended wider meaning ?

ates it. Do you believe the aggregates are mutually exclusive? And, are they actually inclusive ? As Retro has pointed out, khandas in the suttas tend to be used in the context of not-self: https://suttacentral.net/22.59 Other classifications tend to used in other contexts. For example sense bases ...

Re: Sankhara as volition or extended wider meaning ?

To add to Retro's comment, the Abhidhamma is inclusive and exhaustive. So in the case of the aggregates, anything that cannot be classified as form, feeling, perception, or consciousness gets classified as sankhara. Similarly the sense bases/objects are inclusive, and the two classification schemes ...

Re: Not Identifying with Form or Not Conceiving Form?

Elements of "self-identifying" are there within "conceiving", so both terms are pretty closely related. I guess, but why reinvent the wheel, you know what I mean? I think "conceive" is far more explicit. Different strokes. Note that in MN1, https://suttacentral.net/mn1/ we have: pathaviṃ pathavito ...

Re: Not Identifying with Form or Not Conceiving Form?

I think, as is often the case, Ven. Bodhi has prioritized technical accuracy first, and straight-forward readability second. Ven. Sujato inverts those priorities. Yes, Bhikkhu Sujato's stated aim is readability without having to look up footnotes or dictionaries. Since Bhikkhu Bodhi's translations ...

Re: Where outside of Dhammawheel can one ask Orthodox Theravada questions and get Orthodox answers?

.. the Pali commentaries were written by Theravadin Monks for Theravadin Monks(kind of obvious). And at least a beginners knowledge of Abhidhamma is assumed. He recommended at least learning the Abhidhammatthasaṅgaha(Manual of Abhidhamma) for better access of the Commentaries.... As a relative amat...

Re: Where outside of Dhammawheel can one ask Orthodox Theravada questions and get Orthodox answers?

I've read most of the Visuddhimagga and found the exact opposite: the vast majority of it is incredibly useful for practical purposes and for illuminating some of the more obscure dhamma points. Have you joined Bhikkhu Sujato's short course, The Visuddhimagga for Sutta lovers? https://learn.dhamman...
