I am basically looking for something that rings once and then stops by itself, ie. one doesnt have to break ones sitting and do anything to turn it off.

Something like a single gong would be most preferable... like on the iphone vipassana app

Gentle non-mobile meditation timer (battery operated)?

Does anyone have any suggestions about a gentle meditation timer to be used in a place where one doesnt have access to a mobile phone? Maybe some alarm clock with a soft gradual ring thats small, portable and sturdy - fit to be tossed in a backpack, other than the ridiculously priced Zen Alarm clock...

Looks a bit daunting though. Maybe I will start with some shorter chants instead.
