Re: The best UFO report I've ever read

A good argument as to why we should avoid contact with aliens. No guarantee that they are gonna be friendly

Re: Compassion for Women

Reading the vinaya rules, I’ve been wondering why there are 8 parajikas for nuns yet only 4 for monks. It seems as though if a monk commits a lesser sexual sin he gets a slap on the wrist whereas the nun has to disrobe. That's true with regard to the fifth and eighth bhikkhuni pārājika rules, where...

Re: Compassion for Women

But you would think that the men would also be expected to also be dedicated and serious. I'll go as far as saying that it would be hard to make a case against men in general being better suited to maintain the Dispensation. So for example if i know that 1) a mixed and equal Sangha will last 100 ye...

Re: Compassion for Women

that i don't deny but most people have no clue and can't even begin to comprehend what it would take to set the wheel of Dhamma in motion for the benefit of many. Or maybe the female form is inferior to the male form, and that's all there is to it. Do you think that this idea of female inferiority ...

Re: Compassion for Women

well i can't tell you what it is and i don't know what it is like to be a woman but there are certainly differences between males and females both biological and cultural. Take a look at this one ie; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip7kP_dd6LU I’m not sure I understand the relevance of the video. I...

Re: Compassion for Women

The Tathagatas are free from delusion, hatred and conceit. There can be no mysogyny... If the Tathagata did impose different rules there is most certainly a good reason for it. I’m all ears. I’m actually hoping someone can prove me wrong. But one rule for one and so on doesn’t seem fair to my logic...

Re: Compassion for Women

Do you mean misogyny on the part of the Buddha?
If the vinaya that I’m reading is directly as it is from the Buddha then I’m afraid the answer is yes. If the parajikas have been adjusted by others after the Buddha’s time then no.

Re: Compassion for Women

I imagine because consequences are more grave if a woman gets pregnant. But there's a few others about associating with an expelled bhikkhu/bhikkhuni and another about concealing expulsion-worthy offenses, which tells me it is likely the bhikkhunis were more likely to try and conceal another person...

Re: The best UFO report I've ever read

There's no evidence of a hoax... yet. I want to believe. The article states: The object was shaped like an elongated egg or a "Tic Tac", according to Fravor, and was "holding like a Harrier", the jump jet that can take off vertically. Which rather suggests that it might be an advertising gimmick by...

What do you think we should do to address women’s issues respectfully?
Women should stop hating women.
You might find this interesting. But I don’t think what he says only applies to women, I’ve seen men do it too.

Well it was back in 2004. I guess if they wanted to eradicate us they would have done so by now, so that’s reassuring 😊

Unfortunately I am an aspiring super-heavyweight.
Why unfortunately?
I'm a huge opponent of Buddhism-lite.

Grandiose. And coming from someone who thought Irvine Welsh’s books were written in Welsh
