Re: High Blood Pressure

Thank you for the advice and links

I've managed to lower my BP a few notches after meditation by sitting down with my back against the wall and legs stretched out. It's now more manageable and I'm also more relaxed.

Trouble now, is I think I'm sort of 'cheating' with the above posture. :)

Re: High Blood Pressure

I've currently started taking blood pressure readings. When I am at rest, sitting down, relaxing, it's around 138 / 88. It only seems to spike (150 / 99 or thereabouts) when I am anxious. Out of curiosity, I've recently been taking my blood pressure right after meditating. I don't move, because the ...

Re: High Blood Pressure

My point is that a great deal of the power of the heart beat comes from the apex. And there is unseen tension there. Relaxing and letting go of that tension begins a process which can lead to tranquility and pleasure not of the flesh . Thank you justsit for the correction. Could you instruct me on ...

Re: High Blood Pressure

I have done some googling but as I thought, there's so much information out there, so I don't know what's good practice and what is not so good. All I learned was that with Samatha you close your eyes to meditate - an even that's not a consistent teaching. I just want to know what I need to do when ...

Re: High Blood Pressure

Thanks both

I'm reading “With Each and Every Breath” right now and it is good.

What should I google for, what words should I enter? Samatha meditation?

High Blood Pressure

I suffer from stress and anxiety. I bought myself a blood pressure (BP) unit and it seems the only time my BP is normal is when I first awaken (I check it regularly). I've been wondering lately, of the two, I think I need to focus on meditating to relax . I don't want to sound all dramatic, but it l...

Re: Some Questions

I've been meditating for 107 consecutive days and I'm now up to 30 mins in the morning. This morning I did something different. I didn't focus on the breath I just sat there and noted anything that arose. Sound, emotions, feelings, thoughts, etc. I just sat there being aware of anything and everythi...

Thank you all very much for the advice.

How do you go about finding a teacher to guide your meditation?

Re: Not Feeling the Breath

stop trying to feel the breath at the tip of the nose; not what the buddha taught Did the Buddha says where in particular to focus on the breath? I read 'tip of the nose' in a book a few years ago and I've just gone with that. It might have held me back for all I know. I'd love to know how to do th...

Re: Not Feeling the Breath

Thank you for the advice Sam, it's appreciated.

I'll focus on my chest for the time being because it's really non existent around my nose.

I've been told to read 'With Each and Every Breath' (the pdf) and I am doing that so hopefully there's more advice in there.

Thanks again.

Not Feeling the Breath

No doubt this has been raised numerous times but I have to say, I just cannot feel the breath at the tip of my nose at all. I've been meditating long enough (off and on has to be said) and it's not noticeable. I literally feel nothing. The only place I can feel it is in my nostrils and even then it'...

Re: Some Questions

Ok thanks all for the information. I've two more questions I was hoping someone might reply to. 1. Is it best to meditate eyes open or closed? I go with eyes open but was wondering. 2. How would you sum up the reason for why we practice meditation? What are the benefits both naturally (relaxation, f...

Re: Some Questions

What is the Akashic field, is it real?

I'm watching a programme that talks about the Akashic field, and how it's a repository of information that surrounds us and we can access it via meditation. Apparently, it exists and it's being scientifically researched.

Anyone know anything about this?
