Re: Arahant's suicide
Is Arahant's suicide a GOOD completion of the Path? If it is not, then why Arahant is not the Mahayana Bodhisattva (placing Benefit-For-The Other above Benefit-For-Itself)? Suicide frees Arahant from two types of dukkha: dukkhadukkhatā and saṅkhāradukkhatā. The continuation of life is the continuat...

Re: Jhanas, Misconceptions that have arisen regarding the Four Rupa Jhanas.
A person does not perceive pain at all in the first jhana. His body changes properties, he can sit without moving for 7 days. Already in the first Jhana, many superpowers and knowledge are available. Awareness in the first jhana is much higher than in the normal state. In the comments a lot more is...

Re: Jhanas, Misconceptions that have arisen regarding the Four Rupa Jhanas.
DooDoot as for your comment In summary, the Buddha & the Dhamma teach jhana is a superhuman state. In other words, the Buddha & the Dhamma do not have misconceptions about true jhana This is simply your opinion. Buddha spoke of Mundane vs Supramundane when it came to the Noble path. Is ther...

Re: Jhana: are the three types of concentration real?
Not really. It's like saying that categories are just linguistic constructs which enable verbal and written communication, and which actually have no basis in reality. The above statement sounds non-sequitur to me because degrees or levels of samadhi are unrelated to verbal communication. For examp...

Re: Jhana: are the three types of concentration real?
This is the right answer. Obviously the answer is wrong. Its like saying the ability of an eagle to see more acutely than a human being or for a dog to hear more acutely is "man-made". Its like saying psychological impairments, such as ADD, are "man-made". Its like saying blindn...

Categories are a way of communication.
You can split the Jhana in to as many types you wish.
Having said that I can recall there was a sutta which describe the in between stages of Jhana.

Re: Jhana
As we all know, these are very old texts, which have been subjected to considerable editing, and as such, I think there is plenty to be gained from an experiential exploration of the techniques instead of textual nitpicking. Just because a particular text says something is so, does not mean it is s...

Re: Jhana
Since you've said repeatedly that you cannot do jhana... Where was this repeatedly said? Thanks you should probably stop talking about it as though you know what it's about. I think my posts are accurate. For example it is quite literally obvious MN 128 is not about jhana. Also, it appears quite ob...

Re: Jhana
Fear doesn't arise in first jhana, it can arise in 4th jhana when you stop breathing and other nimittas arise. The above seems to be saying there is awareness of breathing in the 1st jhana. :? Since you've said repeatedly that you cannot do jhana, you should probably stop talking about it as though...

Re: Do scientists say there is a reality not subject to time?
Do scientists say there is a reality not subject to time? Hi Sarath, just keep in mind the guidelines of connections to other paths. Perhaps you can find a way to connect this with Theravada? Thanks, SDC The way I understand Anicca is the word for time in Buddhism. What if there is a dimension noth...

Re: Help understanding Ñāṇavīra Thera
Your trolling is sub-par. It isn't even funny, which is the baseline requirement for trolling. But sir, the Venerable Nanavira Thera teaches a Dhamma good in the middle good in the beginning good in the end, and was taught by Heidegger. The logic is mindboggling and difficult to grasp! The sankhara...

Re: Help! Meaning of sankhara
Hello :) Is there anyone that can achieve the impossible, by explaining to me successfully in idiot language the meaning of sankhara? I understand the meaning in terms of all things being sankhara, but in the context of paticcasamuppada and the aggregates - I am struggling. Is it in actual fact mor...
