Re: Is stealing always wrong?

One example: If I trade stocks, purely to make a quick profit, I sure know if I win someone else is loosing. So if I win, am I taking something that I am not entitled to? am i doing adinnadana? Someone loses when ... What I meant was, by trading in such a way, the so called invester has not really ...

Re: Is stealing always wrong?

There are very subtle things in daily life which may lead to "moral conflict", specially when we find ourseles are subject of "unfair treatement". One example: If I trade stocks, purely to make a quick profit, I sure know if I win someone else is loosing. So if I win, am I taking something that I am...

Re: Is stealing always wrong?

.. sakunagghi sutta. The actual meaning is that ones territory is tied up with darma that is then explained by lord budda. To cut a long story this sakunagghi jataka was narrated by lord budda to explain the necessity of sticking to ones territory in existence ( as required by salayatana) . Above e...

Re: Graveyard of ships

technically speaking, death of a machine does not cause sadness, but attachment to it; illiution that "things we like will remain the same"; expectation to the uncertain future (what the life without the lamp going to be) ; It is so easy to say though, so difficult to practice, fully knowing I see m...

Re: talented people and non self

Do I have to accept on blind faith that talents are nonself? Let me give an analogy. I suppose you are aware how champagne (sparkling wine) may taste so different, season to season, brand to brand, country to country. They may differ batch to batch, even if it is the same vinery same brand, and so ...

Re: Kamma determined birth ?

..certain roles fit better a female figure. Buddhas need to have strong presence... I have heard that only a mother can become a buddha in a future life., that is atleast one of the previous lives of a buddha must be female. Also, I have heard that, to be a buddha, one must receive blessings from h...

Re: RIP Stephen Hawking

I don't think we should praise him because he was famous & well-liked & is now dead. I think you should not praise him if you see nothing to praise in him. Other people find things to praise about him and this thread is a place where they have come to remember him and to mention those things which ...

Re: If you could ask the Buddha one question

I would ask him, "Venerable Sir, if there is no self and Nirvana is attained shouldn't by interconnectedness of all beings, all of life would also reach Nirvana and samsara should cease for all at the moment of enlightenment of just one Buddha?" Then rebirth should not be able to exist no? Let me g...

Re: Kamma determined birth ?

if we accept that "next 'event' is born conditioned by the previous 'events'", the birth X is just another "event", conditioned by the previous "events". if we accept "it is a re-birth" that is we accept existance of past "events", then those belong to the life before this "birth X". So yes, "kamma ...

...The monk smiles and slides in through the open door .. After a mile you glance at your co-passenger .. he is calmly watching the road .. a slight smile hovers around the corner of his lips .. " You gasp .. and hit the brakes .. the car skids a bit and comes to a halt .. All these sequences does ...

I'd ask "What's the very best teaching to suit me?" Because he can read minds he'd look at my mind and tell me the absolute perfect teaching to fit my mind and personality. And I'd get enlightened there and then!
:goodpost:

That is what I would ask as well!

Re: If I am reborn it is not me. So why I care about the rebirth?

I'm holding my breath right now and therefore its not just a process that takes place without a will. Does "your" breathing stop when you fall asleep?... When you're not purposefully stopping it,.... "Where is the I"? "I" itself is an ever changing set of events (a process) one even after the other...
