Re: Do you believe in the infallibility of the Buddha's word?

The Buddha taught us to investigate, cross examine and dun believe blindly. Yet, there are also threats in the suttas e.g. if u criticise...., having doubts...., either u wont progress or will end up in some terrible states. There are many examples of the Buddha facing many human problems and consi...

Another variation of this question is whether you'd kill termites if your house was infested. I personally would get the house treated. I'm guessing the OP would let the termites destroy their house?
i hope that's what i'd do yes.

Re: How Do I Choose The ONE path When I Get So Much From Many Paths ?

well you should just follow what the buddha taught, loads of these traditions teach something very different than that & if you prioritize the buddha's own teachings the right & true option will become clear to you...the buddha said the dhamma will die as a result of people listening to their teach...

Re: Does Sotapanna have the fear ( of death)?

yes. they have eliminated self-view but not conceit. they have not eliminated craving for existence. there are suttas where the buddha assuages the fears of dying stream-enterers nyanavira is not an authority figure. he believed he had attained sotapanna, that is not necessarily the same as having a...

Re: Can anyone refute this depressing viewpoint?

preparations are conditioned by contact. this is why samsara sucks. you should drop all the weird neurological materialist stuff though & examine it from a buddhist psychological perspective, which is less flawed preparation & volition exist. things are not merely the result of external conditions b...

“And what, bhikkhus, is the noble truth of the origin of suffering? Re: suffering is caused by ????

Now I wish to introduce to you something that calls for serious thinking. The Buddha in the Titthāyatana Sutta of the Tika Nipāta in the Anguttara Nikāya proclaims these words. “Katamaṁ ca bhikkhave dukkha samudayaṁ ariyasaccaṁ?” “Monks, what is the Noble Truth of the Arising of Suffering?” Do you ...

Re: Do you believe in the infallibility of the Buddha's word?

For a faithful disciple who is practicing to fathom the Teacher’s instructions, this is in line with the teaching: Saddhassa, bhikkhave, sāvakassa satthusāsane pariyogāhiya vattato ayamanudhammo hoti: ‘The Exalted One is my Teacher, I am his disciple. ‘satthā bhagavā, sāvakohamasmi; The Exalted One...
