It should include killing animals also .
I think it is fine as the Buddha made it. I think he knew what he was doing.

i would think that this is referring to the "right view on the side of merit" as distinguished in the mahacattarisaka sutta which is really just a general belief in moral retribution & thus not something exclusively possessed by Buddhists

there is a distinction between attachment to rites/rituals & practical, detached utilization of them for a wholesome purpose generally speaking i think what the fetter refers to is the belief that rites & rituals are spiritually effective in & of themselves, like the water of the ganges ...
