Re: Buddha knew all along

When holy men and householders are unprincipled, the people of town and country become unprincipled. When the people of town and country are unprinc...

Re: Let's Pray Daily - Virtual Vihara

Glad at heart, I pay homage to the supreme sage- the giver of Blissful Peace, the Great Ocean of virtue, the physician for the samsaric ills of beings, the sun that dispels the pitchy darkness of false views. (Venerable Great Poet of Vidagama - Translated by:Bhikkhu K. Nanananda) Pleased in mind, I...

Re: Why thought (vitakka) is not consider as something mental (mano/citta) ?

It is mental but it is the preparation/saṅkhāra associated with speech. Having thought & pondered one then speaks. It's a sort of sub-vocal & mental speech. It's linked with speech merely for this reason, because it is the preparation for it.

So it's never explained anywhere? The best explanation is that mind ceases and this is nibbana where is this explanation from? I disagree "With the utter fading away of ignorance, even that body is not there, dependent on which there arises for him inwardly happiness or unhappiness; that speech is ...

Re: Post sutta quotes that utterly rule out nibbana being consciousness or self

"Suppose, monks, a magician or a magician's apprentice should hold a magic show at the four crossroads and a keen sighted man should see it, ponder over it and reflect on it radically. Even as he sees it, ponders over it and reflects on it radically, he would find it empty, he would find it hollow,...

Re: Post sutta quotes that utterly rule out nibbana being consciousness or self

Form is like a glob of foam;
feeling, a bubble;
perception, a mirage;
preparations, a banana tree;
consciousness, a magic trick
this has been taught by the Kinsman of the Sun.
