I'm also interested in this topic. I'm pretty sure Nyanamoli's hermitage is for monks who are already ordained. But it doesn't hurt to check.
I'd be interested to hear if you find anything out about other options.

Before becoming a forest monk...
I've searched for a similar topic but found nothing so decided to ask myself. What are some practical things that you think would be useful for a person planning on becoming a forest monk (Thai or otherwise) to practice before heading to the monastery? For example, would learning to sew by hand befo...

Re: Feelings on accepting donations TO ordain
I have decided to not actively pursue any of the ideas discussed above. Perhaps one day something like the above will be available, but I am confident that I will ordain in time regardless.
Thank you for all of your well thought out responses.

American bhikkhus and taxes
I'm curious how taxes work for monastics in America. Obviously they do not owe any, since they make no money, but do they (or does someone) need to file taxes yearly? Is there some kind of special form they can fill out once or something? This question is slightly related to this topic: http://www.d...

Re: Feelings on accepting donations TO ordain
You pose many valid question Lux. I'll do my best to answer them. Most will be only in relation to my case, though I hope this topic can be more wide ranging than that. I am new to Buddhism but I imagine ordination is the same as most other organised religions/philosophies and is a life-long commitm...

Re: Feelings on accepting donations TO ordain
Giving it further thought, the idea is not too different from scholarships awarded. In such cases the applicant is interviewed by the Scholarship Board and the applicant has to show he is deserving. In our scenario, the aspiring monk could perhaps show evidence that he has been practising or attend...

Re: Feelings on accepting donations TO ordain
I just thought of an interesting idea, though I am not sure how it could be implemented practically speaking. Here it is: A fund is set up to take care of (an/various) individual(s) student loan debt. When the required sum is reached, said individual becomes an Anagarika. If said individual wishes t...

Re: Feelings on accepting donations TO ordain
If student debt is hindering this development The way I understand student loan will be payable only if you have a job. If you never have any income the loan will be null and void. And yet I think it is still debt. Claiming to be free from debt during ordination would thus be a lie, would it not? I...

Re: Feelings on accepting donations TO ordain
Thank you so much for the responses. I was a bit surprised at how quickly such well thought out answers came up. But there are several issues to take into consideration. One is the authenticity of the appeal. How do we vet it is not a scam? Another is the quality, determination and sincerity of the ...

Feelings on accepting donations TO ordain
I feel very very reluctant to post this question, and yet at the same time impelled to ask. I have noticed some people (including myself) asking about student loans and ordaining. Some people have mentioned the idea of starting a GoFund me or accepting help in paying off student loans. Personally, I...

Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge
I am writing this post mostly as a personal motivation. It has become quite long, so please don't feel obligated to read it. Thank you! :anjali: I have realized that I tend to jump from technique to technique always worrying that I might not be using the correct technique for my current situation (w...

Can't you get a passport?
You can get them pretty quickly if you pay a little extra.
