Re: Trouble with buddhism view on suicide

I imagine a person's future will be determined according to both the good & bad kamma a person has performed ... ^^^ Then the Venerable Sāriputta approached the Blessed One, paid homage to him, sat down to one side, and said to him: “Venerable sir, the Venerable Channa has used the knife. What is h...

Why unfortunately?
I'm a huge opponent of Buddhism-lite.
The unfortunate part is the "aspiring". I seem to keep on aspiring but not inspiring so this will probably end up with me expiring.

I'm a super-featherweight (58-59 kg). Not that I do boxing, but that's my weight class.
That’s good banter. 😊
Unfortunately I am an aspiring super-heavyweight.

Re: Jordan Peterson - The Problem With Atheism

Petersen says, "The proposition that underlies Western culture is that there is a transcendent morality." He says that this transcendent morality can also be personified as God, or not; but that he's not making an argument for God. It's that the radical atheists (New Atheists like Dawkins and Harri...

If your intention is admirable friendship, kalyanamittata, then "good humored chatting rather than being serious or dedicated to learning" doesn't seem like part of it.

I don't think it's truly any of the above.
^^^

But Christianity is exclusive.

It forces a person coming into contact with it to make a choice.

Either Jesus was the Son of God, or he was "a devil of Hell", as C. S. Lewis stated.

I actually find strong debate very useful actually since I can instantly discern from both sides what the issues are, what the weaknesses in arguments are, etc. That's why I thought eSangha was a great learning tool for me, even though it was intense.

Re: U.N. Declares Famine in Somalia

The difficulty in Somalia right now is that a lot of the famine area is under the control of hard-line Islamic insurgent group, al-Shabab which is preventing relief organizations from getting in.

I miss the old Therevada vs Vajrayana fights from the old forums. Could we create a third forum "Drama Wheel" where we can all get together and bash each other again? M'kay thanks.

Re: Do you also read Mahayana Sutras?

For what it's worth the only way to practice a vehicle or tradition is to accept it as it is. Modern ecumenism boils everything down into a soup which doesn't taste very good. I learn from other schools and religions only when there is an authentic ancient tradition speaking in its own genuine voice...
