Re: Help :-/ Feeling discombobulated in social situations, perhaps due to mindfulness

Thanks Kim, DooDoot, Paul!!

I think it will take a while to acclimate to this new “me” - like a new pair of shoes - and I deeply appreciate the fact that this Sangha exists.

If it’s okay I may check in from time to time about how it’s going

Help :-/ Feeling discombobulated in social situations, perhaps due to mindfulness

Hey guys so I’ve been fortunate to deeply engage with Satipatthana meditation, and find that mindfulness, the 5 precepts, metta, and the “feeling” meditation have provided me with quite a bit of psychic resourcefulness to achieve my goals and transform my life in a positive way. On the other hand, a...

Re: Activism supporting Rohingya

Surprised that no foreign policy activist orgs in the US have been mentioned yet. Would anyone care to start one, with the objective of shaping US foreign policy regarding Myanmar? My take on Trump is not that he’s bad (he is) but that he’s libertarian, leaving government quite literally up to direc...

Activism supporting Rohingya

Alright in case anyone isn’t noticing, Rohingyan genocide is bad. What are people doing, activism wise? Does anyone have any ideas about how to influence international policy via either the UN or the US, or via international NGO’s?

Re: Right intention... Wrong habits.

Thank you for such insightful comments. Living so far from any Therevada temple means that I'm greatly guided by online materials and very glad I stumbled upon this forum. At the moment, I'm also living with my partners parents which can be hectic, particularly with a young child, busy job and othe...

Re: What is the Difference between the Lustful Mind and the Distracted Mind?

Yeah still stuck. Sorry. Here's a hypothetical. You are meditating, and 1.) hear a pleasant thing 2.) smell an unpleasant thing and 3.) touch a neutral thing. To me this can't be lustful mind as the feeling tone from the sound has not arisen to a full emotion. It can't be deluded mind as the neutral...

What is the Difference between the Lustful Mind and the Distracted Mind?

Analayo describes the difference as one of a mind marked by "lust" and one of a mind marked by "restlesness" in Saitipatthana: The Direct Path Ch. 8 , Loc 2676 (Kindle) I'm just wondering, 1. Are these two mind states mutually exclusive? 2. How would you describe the difference between the two? To m...

Re: Members Bios - please contribute yours

I just visited Zion! Gorgeous. The narrows are so cool.

Satipatthana, as I've described to other people, is like a "cheat code" to Buddhism. Analayo is a contemporary monk who has written a solid commentary on it.

Good luck.
