Re: Shambhala international

I read a lot of Trungpa when I was younger. I also went to meditate with a local Shambhala chapter. When I finally decided to take refuge and get more serious about cultivating the Noble Eightfold Path, I made the choice to abandon the idea that booze/womanizing had anything remotely to do with wisd...

Re: Jetsunma speaks to cockroaches!!

I've done that with ants - used to have a big infestation. I "told them" (mentally) that they had better leave, for their own good (otherwise other people in the house would kill them). There are still ants in the house, but they seem to be relatively few and far between now.

Re: Without Mahayana and Tantric teaching you can't have a deep understanding of four noble truths-HHDL.

Greetings, if was true there would be no people understanding the teachings before mahayana was developed xD Indeed. I love when people use simple logic to refute the ludicrous. But as Mike said, HHDL may have been inadvertently misrepresented by Sarath. Metta, Paul. :) To be fair, it ma...

Hopefully you will still check in once and while once you finally take the plunge. All the best! :anjali:

Re: Lay movements in Buddhism

A lot of Buddhism in the west is centered around meditation. It is mostly in lay groups where this is practiced. I went to one group here in my city that call themselves an insight meditation group. They seem to be very influenced by Jack Kornfield. These types of groups are popular every where. Th...

Re: Could Tanha lead to Bhava?

Could Tanha lead to Bhava? As per Dependent Origination Upadana lead to Bhava. The question is whether Tanha alone is sufficient condition to lead to Bhava. Do Arahants got Tanha? For further discussion please see: https://dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=31948 I don't think Arahants have tanha...

Re: Topicless Friendly Banter

I am a Buddhist, and I think a kalyanamitta needs to actually get to know people on a conventional level and then helps on an ultimate level. I don't see eye to eye with binocular here. It's ok to disagree though. I think I agree with the spirit of this thread. I wish I could find more Buddhist fri...

I learned about Dhamma really young and I ended up taking refuge at about age 13.
I'm jealous!! Buddhism would have been a lifesaver for me during adolescence! lol
