Re: How to practice easily

You are doing great so far, cutting the TV time is definitely a progress :) However, No matter how busy you life is, you can always find a time for a meditation :) 10 minutes per day is still better than nothing. Meditation is really easy and simple and you don't need anyone to guide you, unless you...

Re: killing insects

I imagine that if it is a matter of your religious beliefs you ought to be able to raise the issue with your employer and tell them that it is against your religion to kill insects. If they discipline or fire you over it then that might qualify for unfair dismissal. I'd consider contacting an emplo...

Re: How to maintain a good enough practice

Why do you care about enlightenment ? I do not even believe in the existence of the Buddha or rebirth and enlightenment thing. However, there is a lot to be gained in your daily life just by practicing meditation. You'll gain even more if you care to spend some time listening to Dharma talks or read...

Re: Does illegal downloading violate the 2nd precept?

Here is the thing, I spend less than 5 hours a month watching a tv. I am already paying for the tv services but in case I want to watch HBO I would have to pay extra 5$ a month, that's not something that I am not willing to do just for the sake of watching game of thrones. Plus the premiere is at th...

Thank you very much for your inputs :) Those very helpful more :namaste:

Looking at the broader picture makes much more sense.
Observing the thought never led me to anything expect for doing unwanted behavior.

Rationalizations - following your thoughts even thought you know you shouldn't

Here is a definition in case some you don't know what rationalization actually is: rationalized, rationalizing - to ascribe (one's acts, opinions, etc.) to causes that superficially seem reasonable and valid but that actually are unrelated to the true, possibly unconscious and often less creditable ...

Re: Understanding the fourth precept

I am very much a fan of Ajahn Brahm when it comes to this. In all of his talks that listened to (and there were many) he never mentioned "honesty" (in the sense of speaking factual correctness). He always talks about skillful speech. Also, he stresses that to him, the definition of truth is that wh...

Re: Right Speech - lying

Thanks for input. I've spent some time reading older threads and comments and I have found many interesting answers and I understand this precept much better now. There is no need to obsess myself with this because my intention is good. When he asked for money to buy medicines, I gave it immediately...

Right Speech - lying

My father is an alcoholic, and he is occasionally asking for money. When he ask me do I have money, I say NO, even though I have. That is lying. However, If I say that I do have and that I don't want to give it to him ( pure truth ) that would lead to conflict. If I am right, this is a lose-lose sit...

I usually listen to Gil Fronsdal but I might try with the link you have provided by Joseph Goldstein.

45 hours in total. 1 hours a day = 45 days. Thats a good challenged :-D
