Re: What do you use to wake up?
Hi All, I didn't know where to post this question but, since it's about pre-meditation time, I thought this corner of the forum would be right; Moderators, feel free to move it to a more proper section if needed. Well, my problem is as follows: I want to start again my morning meditation sessions b...

Re: A 'Basic' Question
Hi Salty-J The only effective way I have found out to do it is to constantly remind myself why I need to be mindful. with metta I hear ya, if I could only remember to remind myself of why I need to be mindful, I'd be back on track! Well, half-joking, anyway. I remember to practice mindfulness fairl...

If only there were an easy way to pull that one off!rowyourboat wrote:Hi Collective
Maybe you need to not 'drop' the mindfulness when you stop meditating but carry doing it after you 'finish' your (sitting) meditation as well..

Re: A 'Basic' Question
I think it would be great to get rid of the fear of death! I'll try it tonight! Most nights I lay in bed, relaxing until I start gasping for breath (I need to the sleep apnea people but still...), acutely aware of my body's twitching as my conciousness gets hazy, until I am struck with this intense ...

Re: Is this an ok definition of anatta?
thank you, gentlemen! I did go with "not-self" as opposed to no-self, like the link talks about, but I see the point about existing and what does or does not! Thank you so much! :namaste: I changed it like this: the Buddhist teaching of anatta, or “not-self”, which says there can not be fo...

Is this an ok definition of anatta?
the Buddhist teaching of “anatta”, or non-self, which teaches there exists no separate self that truly “is” a thing as we perceive it, but that everything and everyone is a combination of various components, the way they are because of causes and conditions, that give the illusion of having a separa...

Re: cause of birth of new humans
I'd forgotten about posting this thread until this afternoon. What interesting reading and links, thanks everyone for participating! I was taking a shower when I remembered about it and wondered about if there would be many posts or not, and what it was I'd posted in the first place, then I thought,...

cause of birth of new humans
Buddhaghosa explains in his Visuddhimagga (Path of Purification): Whosoever has no clear idea about death and does not know that death consists in the dissolution of the five groups of existence (i.e. form, feeling, perception, mental formations, & consciousness), he thinks that it is a person, ...

Hi Salty-J, I just replied to another topic with a similar theme, I think much of what I wrote applies to your situation too: http://dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=3908&view=unread#p57537" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; With Metta, Guy I think that's good advi...

Re: got bored of meditation; want to continue!
Whenever I feel lazy or for whatever reason just don't particularly feel like it, I tell myself that I'll just sit for 5 minutes, no pressure. But after a few minutes have passed and I've settled in, it's easy to go for another few minutes, and then another few, and then eventually awhile has passe...

got bored of meditation; want to continue!
I was getting into it, almost daily, usually for 25 minutes.....then the leader at our meditation group went on a retreat, and everything was ok for a couple weeks, with guest leaders on the weekly sits; but one day I had to do something around that time in the day, and didn't go. That week I found ...

Re: enough motivation for stream entry?
Clinical depression makes a person has poor sleep, poor appetite, early morning waking, poor concentration, guilt, shame, helpless, worthless and feel sad and suicidal. This has none of that. Depression is a feeling (mood only), this is an understanding (insight+mild mood). The former is a the resu...

Re: enough motivation for stream entry?
Hi Ben, Guy Yes, this got me thinking of the degree of understanding of Dukkha/unsatisfactoriness required to incline the mind towards the 'unclingable' state (or even take it there). It could be successfully argued that 99% of meditators have no concept of the dukka in the four noble truths and he...

I'd imagine you'd have to be damn near enlightened to respond to death like those folks.devyani_mandpe wrote:It is a very touching story but how do i become so brave as to face death of a loved one and my own death and pain so realistically?
