Re: What does the buddha mean by having mindfulness established"in front of him"

Prior to developing mindfulness the mind will wander away from the act of being mindful. We all know this. That act must be in regard to whatever arises, even the act itself. Think of any sutta about mindfulness, "While [doing such and such], he knows, "I am [doing such and such]"". That second part...

Re: add moderator to foes

You sent me a pm that you were contesting my decision, inquired about adding me as a foe, and a post back you told me I was unfit to be a moderator, so obviously you have something to say to me or at least about me. Not sure why no one can be told anything anymore. It's always someone else's fault. ...

so you are going to follow me around the forum?
My job is to enforce the rules. If you don't want to see me then follow them. What's the problem? Do want a free pass to say whatever you want?

if i don't want a moderator to contact me, what can i do If you don't want me to contact you, keep doing whatever you please, ignore the ToS and earn yourself a suspension. Re: Hillary gave Away all our Uranium!

And then, use the the profits to support the Clinton Foundation, which then totally colluded with the Russians! Pisses me off, that she gave away all our Uranium, and made all that money on it! What would she do next, If President? If Hillary was elected, she would not put sanctions on Russia! Prov...

What causes me to decrease participation: Getting banned for criticizing Nanavira, Nanamoli or Nanananda You keep telling this story and maybe one day enough of the people who know the truth will be gone from the forum and you can actually convince people that it is real. But until then I will be h...

Re: Buddha abandoning his wife and child - was it wrong?

Having a wife and kids myself it bothered me a bit at first when I was beginning to look into Buddhism. I think the fact that the Buddha came back to teach his son and former wife the Dhamma, in which both realized arhantship, more than makes up for his leaving. Indeed. Ends the argument as far as ...

Re: Theravada in 2018

I think it is necessary to clarify how come people remain on the level of involvement/interest, as opposed to pursuit/commitment. Except in the case of the rare person who really just has "too much time on their hands", I find that something much more profound is going on when people seem to delibe...

Re: Theravada in 2018

to that point about involvement, "Thus, friends, you should train yourselves: 'Being Dhamma-devotee monks, we will speak in praise of jhana monks.' That's how you should train yourselves. Why is that? Because these are amazing people, hard to find in the world, i.e., those who dwell touching the de...

Re: Theravada in 2018

There is certainly no point in arguing, no room for elitism, room for self improvement and training only. The wise will figure it out. Agreed. In my experience, the cream rises to the top. What I mean is that once the individual has quantified a certain amount of information, certain ideas repeated...

Re: Theravada in 2018

Whenever such arenas have been provided the discussion is dull and reserved. That is just my opinion. I think it should be an extension, for example if stackexchange, dhammawheel and debate.org were a single platform, it would be awesome af imo. With such an ambitious platform the expectation is su...

Re: Theravada in 2018

Would anybody challenge the statement that majority of Theravada has conflicting views on dependent orginination and that it can be rightfully said that Yogacara, Mahayana and Vajrajana - like, views, are held by many if not the majority of "Theravada" monastics, let alone lay people? I am not sayi...

Re: Theravada in 2018

Seems to me that the further the Dhamma spreads the thinner it gets, and the discrepancy between "what the Buddha meant" and what it means to be "Theravadin" is only growing, not consolidating. There is quite clearly a range of involvement with the teaching in terms of how one's life is arranged acc...
