Re: Is there creator god actually there?just asking

can someone create something from nothing? acc to physics its impossible some to come in a bang or boom but what if creation of universe and god is beyond physics and does not obey law of physics? The fundamental issue with trying to discern a beginning is that it is always conflated and bound up w...

Re: Tan Ajahn Anan says the Bodhisattvas of Mahayana are real!

I don't know either.. hahah..maybe look into the writings of that master.. hard to fathom this earth could be a pure land. Well, I was just trying to understand the whole idea of what pure land is...is it like heaven? You said we should rejoice, so I thought you would share what you think it means.

Re: Tan Ajahn Anan says the Bodhisattvas of Mahayana are real!

There was a Zen master from Taiwan who had a mission to make a pure land on earth. His name is Sheng Yang and he has many youtube videos. Unfortunately the world is far too degenerate, or rather, the minds of the beings in it, to come close to a pure land. A pure land is based on everyone having lo...

Re: 2 different types of approaches to reading the Nikayas

I can’t speak to that which is more superior or inferior. However my practice was to read the nikayas which I did not yet understand(admittedly still learning and probably always will be), in order to better understand it. Then with eagerness and effort, put what I have learned/read it into practic...

Re: What suttas support the classical Theravada view of immediate rebirth?

I know it is immediate, with zero room for any intermediate state (see Venerable Narada Thera, The Buddha and His Teachings, 1964, excerpt below) What suttas support this view? Rebirth takes place immediately, irrespective of the place of birth, just as an electromagnetic wave, projected into space...

For those who wish to become more familiar with theosophy as Blavatsky presented it, go over to this thread at Dharma Paths: https://dharmapaths.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=227 I will not inform (that is, irritate) you folks here anymore, unless asked to. This thread has provided, at least, some good ...

Re: Theosophy

Whether Buddha 'arranged' or 'constructed' or radiated, I doubt any such distinction is 'drastic'. In any case, Theosophy is unique in many ways as page viii of The Secret Doctrine suggests: Instead of "drastic" I should have said "cavernous". In fact, I'm going to push it right over the edge: the ...

Re: Theosophy

However, what he taught by word, thought & deed was a beneficent construction for humanity in general. For certain groups and/or individuals he gave a differing 'construction' based on their temperament & quality of mind. The drastic distinction I see is that a description can be arranged around an...

Re: Way to Mute other users from certain posts to no derail them

I love this forum and the space it provides to learn and understand the dhamma. However there are a handful of people who are clearly only hear to debate and show that they know more than everyone and tend to ruin or derail many, if not all topics. It would be nice to have a way to mute certain peo...

Re: Theosophy

Esoteric philosophy reconciles all religions, strips every one of its outward, human garments, and shows the root of each to be identical with that of every other great religion. It proves the necessity of an absolute Divine Principle in nature. It denies Deity no more than it does the Sun. Esoteri...

...but I guess you really weren't intending that kind of excellence but some other kind of excellence.....some other kind of excellence which I don't find very relevant. Pretty much. More of a worldly framework situation. That which the academics would hold in high regard. As dry as that is, I am i...

Re: Degree in Buddhist Studies

The OP asks what is most relevant. Relevance is found in the individual and nowhere else. The individual wanting to find some relevance would likely benefit by getting some books and studying on their own....if relevance is found then the individual can decide what course of study would be appropri...

Re: Kamma as "wearing a groove"

I recall something in the vein and would be interested in seeing the sutta as well. The simile of the adze handle wearing in SN 22.101 is reminiscent of it, but probably not quite what you're looking for: So too, bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu dwells devoted to development, even though no such wish as thi...
