Re: Self-Love or Self-Compassion
Interesting question. If everything is determined and we have no say in what happens, then the question is moot, because the self-love would also be determined. It would either happen or not happen according to old kamma . The question of "use" would be redundant, as a feeling of usefulne...

Re: What does it mean?
Hi guys, I am living in Bali. Some of Balinese people the other day told me, if I am jealous/envious and spite of you, I give you pressure . I am just an ordinary person, I live an ordinary life. Does anyone experience this before, what does it really mean? Pleasure or pressure? It's a r, pleasure ...

Re: Self-Love or Self-Compassion
Hello all, Can someone enlighten me what is the use of self-love? What is happening to us, not in our control. What is the use of self-compassion when so called higher power or karmic power decides suffering for us or makes us experience certain things in life? Is self-love not futile? What is the ...

Paritta chanting
Hi all, Pali language has vowels, consonants that are different from English they normally have ¯, ~ sign above the letter (not sure how do you call that sign). The signs already decide how to read the letter for example how long or short the vowel is. So if you chant a paritta uses tones as we norm...

Before do any chanting
Hello all, We or some people were taught they need to brush their teeth, take a shower and clean themselves before they do chanting, making offering to Triple Gem. We prepare ourselves. We don't chant when our mouth is full of food, dirty, etc. The question is, soon when we wake up in the morning, c...

Gambling and precept
Is gambling breaking any precept guys?
Is it forbidden in Buddhist teaching? Maybe only when we break the precept when we gamble or is it when it becomes an addiction?
Some people say when you trade stocks in stock market without knowledge in trading, it is basically gambling. What's your thought?

Re: Cakes, eggs and bad kamma
Yes, I think so. Intention is intention, results are something else. If we know about unpleasant results and deliberately intend to ignore them, then that's a different type of dark kamma, it would seem. There's no cosmic calculating machine which works out how much suffering your actions objective...

Re: Cakes, eggs and bad kamma
I don't own chicken but I think most people know how farm animals are treated. Let's not get into vegetarian topic :) If you own a cake shop most people will buy eggs from supplier not a supermarket. You buy regularly in a large amount. But it sounds like it's not bad karma in your reply, am I corr...

Re: Cakes, eggs and bad kamma
I would have thought that, kamma being intention, it depends on the intention of the baker. Normally, their intention in running a bakery is not to make hens suffer. The suffering of hens might be an unintended result of his or her business practices, but that's not kamically significant. But if th...
