Re: Simple map of the Buddha's India

Here is a map from Suttacentral/Bhante Sujato: Announcing a map of the Buddha’s India . I find it interesting Upanishads are not mentioned at all in the Pali suttas; yet scholars such as Bhikkhu Sujato appear to adhere to the common view the Upanishads began before the arising of the Buddha. While ...

Re: Can non matter related to matter ?

The problem, in dualist terms, is the seemingly impossible gap between matter and mind.
If you say that mind is actually matter, but nibbana isn't matter, then haven't you simply moved the gap?

Re: Can non matter related to matter ?

Hi, James,
Your question is answered in terms of Cartesian dualism in Western philosophy. Start here - https://psychologydictionary.org/cartesian-dualism/ - if you want to explore that way of looking at it.

Re: PM about dhammaboard.co

The bodhi tree doesn't get a mention As far as I know, Bodhi tree does not attract birds and bees etc as it does not have flowers. That is the reason Bodhi tree is an ideal place for sitting as you do not have to worry about bird droppings. We're a long way OT here but ... Figs are weird. They do h...

Re: PM about dhammaboard.co

I think that butterfly is a special species for Queensland I think is called a Ulysses butterfly. I planted a special tree to attract these butterflies but they never visit my place. So I am trying my luck with the Buddha's own Bodhi Tree. :| You're both quite right - It's a Ulysses and it's a loca...

Re: Theravada for Beginner

For getting started with Sutta's, many recommend Bhikkhu Bodhi's Anthology called In The Buddha's Words . He has fairly long introductions to the chapters which are helpful. (There is a beginner resource thread at the top of the beginner forum section.) :goodpost: You will probably find that modern...

Re: PM about dhammaboard.co

I think Budo summarized the feelings of many already, so no need to add to that as to why anyone would be interested in joining dhammaboard.co . I believe that everyone in this world would like to be, and deserves to be, treated with dignity and respect. This includes not being condescended to with...

Re: PM about dhammaboard.co

I didn't get a PM (and I think that using one board's PM system to recruit for another is a bit dubious) but I found it immediately with a search and had a look. I can't see that it offers anything very new except (for better or for worse) different admins. In general I think that splitting the pote...

Re: What is the oldest religion in China?

What is the oldest religion in China? Was it more close to Hinduism or the Abrahamic religion? https://youtu.be/WCG8yrJskRk From the Intro on YouTube: " Can it be that the supreme God of China, who was worshiped by the Chinese people throughout most of their history, is the same Creator God of Juda...

...although I'm not sure that your substitution is very convincing in Theravada terms. (It works better in Pure Land, where "other power" is central.)
