Re: PM about dhammaboard.co

I didn't get a PM (and I think that using one board's PM system to recruit for another is a bit dubious) but I found it immediately with a search and had a look. I can't see that it offers anything very new except (for better or for worse) different admins. In general I think that splitting the pote...

Re: What is the oldest religion in China?

What is the oldest religion in China? Was it more close to Hinduism or the Abrahamic religion? https://youtu.be/WCG8yrJskRk From the Intro on YouTube: " Can it be that the supreme God of China, who was worshiped by the Chinese people throughout most of their history, is the same Creator God of Juda...

...although I'm not sure that your substitution is very convincing in Theravada terms. (It works better in Pure Land, where "other power" is central.)

Re: Theravadan Europe - A comprehensive Resource

There are 2800 results for Europe on Buddhanet's directory - http://www.buddhanet.info/wbd/region.php?region_id=5 - but not all Theravada. The search tools should let you home in on them if you're keen.

Good luck!

Re: Can a Buddhist drink alcohol in moderation?

Anyone can develop any opinion he wishes, but according to the Buddha in the Mahanama sutta AN 8.25, those who have taken refuge are Buddhists, and those who keep the 5 precepts well are virtuous Buddhists. Almost every Buddhist I know do not keep the precepts to perfection but I would consider the...

Re: on Sila - where do you practice "right speech" online?

It’s very difficult at times to see the intention of posters because we can’t really put a tone to our words online. That’s why a little of emoji use at times can show your intention when the post may seem harsh otherwise.. Agreed, but there is also the case where someone might use emojis t...

I was introduced to it in the Tibetan tradition, under the name "Sleeping Yoga" (yoga nidra), but I don't know enough about it to guide anyone else. You might have more luck with your enquiry on our sister site DW Mahayana.

Re: Different editions of the Pali Canon?

he longer answer gets complicated fairly quickly: the Buddha's teachings spread north where they were preserved in Sanskrit, and South to Sri Lanka where they were preserved in Pali. The Sanskrit versions went to China and were translated into Chinese, and the Pali went to Burma, Thailand, etc wher...

Re: Polyamorous relationships

The problem appears whin the idea of a woman having multiple partners, then of course she becomes a despicable whore. Not always. Polyandry (/ˈpɒliˌændri, ˌpɒliˈæn-/; from Greek: πολυ- poly-, "many" and ἀνήρ anēr, "man") is a form of polygamy in which a woman takes two or more husbands at the same ...
