Re: Americans will never give up their guns.

I don't know what you all can do about all this, but it starts with a realisation that the US, uniquely, is falling because it has rotted from the inside. :namaste: Kim The US may be specifically troubled by its problems with guns and violence, but saying it has rotten from the inside is incredibly...

Re: Americans will never give up their guns.

Why not just take the gun out of the kid's hands? Follow this logic until only one entity has the guns: the State. What makes the State more trustworthy than any individual? Nothing. No one in the US is aiming to take all guns away and give them to the State. That ship sailed a long time ago. If th...

Re: Global Warming: Recent Data

Arctic temperatures soar 45 degrees above normal, flooded by extremely mild air on all sides :jawdrop: While the Eastern United States simmers in some of its warmest February weather ever recorded, the Arctic is also stewing in temperatures more than 45 degrees above normal. This latest huge temper...

Re: Changes in attitudes towards global warming

More about politics than about global warming per se, and as much about the US as about Australia ... we share a problem. Why can’t Australia break up with coal? From the UK and China to Denmark, Chile and India, an inexorable global rush to move from polluting coal is under way. And it’s not just c...

Re: The Buddha displaying sense of humor

I've seen all sorts of quotes people claim to be humorous & every time I see nothing funny about it whatsoever. I think people might want there to be humor on the Buddha's part a little too strongly... I've seen all sorts of sitcoms people claim to be humorous & every time time I see nothing funny ...

Re: The Buddha displaying sense of humor

:goodpost: The Buddha certainly used all sorts of humour (well, all 'clean' sorts  ) in his teaching but, like Perkele, I can't remember specific instances except that there are several in his debates with Brahmins. Searching https://www.accesstoinsight.org/search_results.html for 'humor' fo...

Re: how well do you know buddhism quiz

When one compare one thing to another, what happens with both of them then? Maybe a question they should have asked themselves before making another pointless test ... :) It's not pointless. It's clickbait - selling eyeballs to advertisers, harvesting email addresses for direct online marketing and...

Re: 400 Noble Truths

I would have said, rather, that the Four Truths have more and deeper meanings than Buddha had time to teach, and that they are relevant or helpful on the Path but they are all consistent with the 4NT and can all be extrapolated from them (with enough thought, naturally). :namaste: Kim So among some...

i do not understand on account of what is any of it in it self or when taken as a whole constitute a Noble Truth? Re: Why many people use Apple computers for video presentations?

Apple makes very good machines - not quite as good as they say they are, of course, but very good.
Their laptops have always been fast and light, and I guess they still are, so they are good for mobile presentations.
