Here, too.

Where we are, garden suppliers also often sell Buddha statues along with their fountains and hanging baskets.

Re: Throwing food

But do you think throwing away foods without good reasons will deplete off our own merits ?! If you want a one-word answer: Yes. A slightly longer answer: IMHO, needlessly wasting anything is (slightly) bad kamma. Like the monk with his robe, we should make the best possible use of what we have. :n...

Re: Throwing food

Can you find what sutta that is?....I found some stuff on care of robes in the vinaya as one would expect but I didn't find anything on mending or repurposing the fabric. There is a story in Vinaya (but I'm not sure if this is what Kim OHara had in mind). When Ven. Ānanda was presented with 500 rob...

I was actually hoping that one of the kind, clever people here would save me having to look for it.

Re: Throwing food

There's a sutta about proper care and re-use of the monk's robes - to keep it, mend it, and not to throw it away when it's no longer fit to be used as a robe but to cut it and repurpose it.
Is it too big a stretch to say we should take similar care not to waste other goods like food?

Try also with more mundane solutions, such as reducing the intake of foods that increase blood pressure.
Yes.
A good diet (lots of fresh food, but cut down on fats and salt) and regular exercise (walking is good) will help reduce any physical causes of high blood pressure.

Re: Marks of existence sutta

Simple: SN 22.59 is explicitly "The Characteristic of Not-Self ", the " Anatta lakkhaṇa Sutta" and is all about anatta. Read it: https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/sn/sn22/sn22.059.than.html . If you want to find the other two marks there, you probably can - but only as pointers to anatta. I ...

Re: Marks of existence sutta

One of the three does not equal the group. Can you provide a better reference? I am struggling to follow what you are writing. Are you are newbie to Buddhism or are you a Noble One asking us lowly students a very deep question? Is possibly Wikipedia a trusted media to find the answer to this questi...

Re: Marks of existence sutta

There was a thread here, on this topic, eons ago, and the conclusion I remember from it was that the familiar grouping of the Three Marks did not date to the time of the suttas but to the time of the commentaries. We did once have a thread pointing out that the convention of referring to aniccatā ,...

This thread is Connections to Other Paths on so many levels.
I think it's a natural Lounge topic but the DWT Lounge has gone the way of Atlantis.

A couple of others are a bit odd, too, but the main thing I was looking for was whether we appear reasonably near the top, and we do.
