Re: your home altar/shrine
Where do you guys get your Buddha statues (I live in UK)? I got my Rupa at a flea market one weekend a couple years ago. I live in an area that is 99.9% Christian so I was very surprised to see this Rupa there, and for such a good price. You never know when or where you may find a Rupa for yourself...

Re: Newbie from Canada!
Hello and welcome! I'm about an hour from you so it's cool to see someone near my area on here! This is a great place to get to know some awesome Buddhists and learn a lot. Feel free to ask questions and I hope this begins a great chapter in your life.
With great respect, and metta,
Jay

Re: Dealing with grief
Thank you to everyone who has posted, sent kind messages, or sent a kind thought or metta in my direction. I am very grateful to all of you. Jeff, yes I am familiar with Ajahn Punnadhammo! As a matter of fact, he was the first Theravada Bhikkhu I began learning from, mainly by following his blog. It...

Re: Dealing with grief
Thank-you. I will take your advice on dana. It would also serve as a tribute to my girlfriend, because she was an advocate of helping others and giving. I think the hardest part for me is feeling like I'm letting her down, because I know she would not want me to hurt so much. She was an eternal opti...

Re: Dealing with grief
Thank-you. I absolutely will see about talking to a counsellor. As far as a teacher is concerned, I can't seem to find any where I live, but I have already been provided with quite a few names of teachers who interact with students online from some very kind people. Thank-you everyone who sent me a ...

Dealing with grief
Hello. I may but posting this in the wrong forum but I don't know where else to go, and I'd like to have feedback from other Buddhists rather than Christians (nothing against Christians, just I'm not one). Last month, on the 28th of December, my girlfriend died. She was only 21 at the time and her d...

Re: What music are you listening to right now?
Right now I'm listening to a song called Tabidachi no Uta by a Japanese pop/rock band called Mr.Children. In English it means "A Song for Setting Off."

Thank you Ben and Nanadhaja for your advice. I will indeed contact the Centre to find out when there are some programs or talks going on.
Metta to you both and all who visit this forum.

Formally going for refuge
Hello to all, I have been studying and following the Buddha Dhamma since last December, and all is going well in that regard. Recently I got a new vehicle; one much better suited for long-distance traveling in comparison to my last one, and today I remembered there is a Dhamma Centre about an hour's...

Re: A. L. De Silva's "Beyond Belief"
I consider De Silva's book to be not so much for providing one with ammo in case a group of fundamentalist Christians appear and push their religion, but rather to provide comfort and assurance to Buddhists who perhaps may have been Christian and are now having some doubt, or perhaps for Christians ...

Re: locking topics?
Kokoro I don't think that's such a good idea. At Dhamma Wheel we encourage our members to self moderate and to be mindful that every member is responsible for their right speech. I'm heartened when members, after realizing they've said something they later regret, go back and remove the comments th...

Re: locking topics?
I know this is somewhat off topic but I would like to make a small suggestion if possible. My suggestion is that you do not delete your own posts, however you may feel about them. The reason I say this is twofold: first, once you say something, it is done and even if you remove it later the people w...
