Re: Do you believe in the infallibility of the Buddha's word?

I deliberately said I don't care about scient ists as opposed to science itself I'm afraid I don't understand your antipathy towards scientists. Mostly they are just people doing a job. I'm not antipathetic towards scientists, I am apathetic & distrusting. From Scott Adams Claim that you heard of a...

This is an old reply to an academic Dear Dighanaka, I reply to your post about why you think we should look to academics, rather than the Theravada tradition, to find the truth about aspects of what the Buddha taught. Dighanaka QUOTE I should prefer to limit it to modern academic scholars with exper...

insight requires access concentration?

As several of us have said "dry" is somewhat confusing characterisation of such practices, since insight requires, according to the commentaries, to develop the jhana factors to access-concentration level. And that is what such practices aim for. That would imply that it is partly a samatha practic...

Re: can you be superstitious in buddhism

Talking about Peta (phi (ผี) in Thai), my university, back when I lived in Bangkok, decided to have a end of year get away at an upcountry resort. So I found out they booked me in a hut as a shared room. I told them I would pay the extra to have the room to myself. All sorts of reasons appeared as t...

Re: Without the knowledge , is there a self ?

The kilesa have three levels : Anusaya, latent; pariyutthana, arising but only at the level of thinking and finally vitikakama-kilesa which is the level of akusala kammapatha- the most serious level. Usually young children and animals wouldn't have the last level, but they certainly have the anusaya...

The quotes above only say the Dhamma is difficult for those delighting in lustfulness. :pig: According to the sutta the Buddha also said that : "This Dhamma that I have attained is deep, hard to see, hard to realize, peaceful, refined, beyond the scope of conjecture, subtle, to-be-experienced b...
