Re: Vinnanam Anidassanam
the Theravada understanding is that nibbana is an object of insight, not that nibbana has any type of consciousness. When you say that Nibbana is an "object of insight", do you mean it's an object of consciousness ( vinnana )? Something we become aware of? yes it is an object of citta/vinnana, and ...

Re: Vinnanam Anidassanam. Classical Version.
From an old post by ven. Dhammanando: In the Mahāvihāra's understanding viññāṇaṃ does not mean consciousness in this context . Instead, it is defined as viññātabbaṃ, a verbal derivative that can be taken as a noun ('that which must be cognized') or an adjective ('to be cognized', 'must be cognized')...

Re: Vinnanam Anidassanam
Greetings robertk and thank you for the explanation! Is it because "vinnana" has always an object according to orthodox Theravada, right? After all, it seems that awareness is always an awareness "of" something (e.g. even the consciousness referred in AN 10.6 seems to have Nibbana as an object...) ...

Re: Vinnanam Anidassanam
] Vinnanam anidassanam is just a clean, jhanic, 100% defilement-free arahant's consciousness, . as my opening post stated: [, the term 'Viññanam' in the line of the original Pali verse " Viññanam anidassanam, anantam sabbatopabham .." does not refer to consciousness, the usual meaning of viññanam ....

Re: Vinnanam Anidassanam
Referring to the Buddha's attainment of enlightenment as described in SN 56.11, Thanissaro says: "The consciousness attained through this release is the only type of awareness that the Canon recognises as truly unconditioned, for- unlike every other form of consciousness- it can be known without re...

Re: Vinnanam Anidassanam
as I understand it: it does not refer to any kind of special consciousness outside of the aggregates or a crypto self, but rather to liberating (i.e. nibbanic) insight thanks. the Theravada understanding is that nibbana is an object of insight, not that nibbana has any type of consciousness. While ...

Small.?How could he technically taste such a state giving his small level of development ?
He has already directly known Nama- rupaparichedda nana, something that is due to extraordinary level of understanding. And then a further 15 stages of insight.
None of this is related to skill in jhana.

Re: Flesh desires along with mindfulness
Even sotapanna and sakadagami may enjoy pleasures of the flesh, and even the completely deluded may abstain from pleasures of the flesh. The path is primarily one of eradicating wrong view.. Re: mettā in commentarial tradition (refutation)
conceiving oneself in mettā is counter to the buddha's instructions , plain as day So, just to be clear: When monastics chant "May I be happy" or "May I abide in wellbeing", they are acting counter to the Buddha's instructions? Is that chant a translation taken from a pali sutta or commentary?

Incidentally, Ajahn Passano also participated in the 2010 Theravada bhikkhuni ordination in California, but because the women are not in the Thai Forest tradition, nobody objects to their ordination. Kind of undermines all these arguments against the validity of bhikkhuni ordinations . How does it ...

Re: mettā in commentarial tradition (refutation)
. First of all it should be developed only towards oneself, doing it repeatedly thus: “May I be happy and free from suffering” or “May I keep myself free from enmity, affliction and anxiety and live happily.” this is the section from VIS However the Vis is well aware of the problem: 9. If that is so...
