Re: What does the buddha mean by having mindfulness established"in front of him"

the most important part, imho, comes a few stanzas later in the satipatthan sutta where it says Atthi kayoti va panassa sati paccupatthita hoti = "Or, indeed, his mindfulness is established, with the thought: 'The body exists.'" the Commentary adds "Mindfulness is established for the yogi through ca...

By eliminating ignorance you arrive at right view . Moha, avijja, ignorance, arises with all akusala citta. Wrong v...

Re: has the smartphone destroyed a generation

here is the complete article One day last summer, around noon, I called Athena, a 13-year-old who lives in Houston, Texas. She answered her phone—she’s had an iPhone since she was 11—sounding as if she’d just woken up. We chatted about her favorite songs and TV shows, and I asked her what she likes ...

thanks Mr Man.
Whenever I get too attached I think of the Dhammapada passage
The fool thinks "I have sons, I have wealth." Indeed, when he himself is not his own, whence are sons, whence is wealth

p.s. it doesn't' really help when it comes to her, ha.

Re: Finding Mahasi Sayadaw Meditation difficult

In the attached video this monk Ven. Pemasiri explains how he wasted 20 years by following Mahasi and Goenka method. ... That's sad for him, I guess. Clearly different approaches suit different people. When someone is asking for help with a particular approach, I don't think it is useful to post cr...

Re: Arguing about Mahasi Sayadaw and Goenka Meditation

When I was in an Acharn Naeb center ( back in the day) I met a sri lankan monk who felt the same way - he lived at Kandabodha center for years, before coming to thailand. His coments were very helpful at the time for me: this was pre- internet and it was hard to get any balanced opinions. Long story...

We don't actually know that the Venerable Śāriputra did not transmit definitive Abhidhamma clarifications of suttanta. Anyone who tells you otherwise in an absolutist manner is not being academically honest. Possibly; and then conversely: We don't actually know that the Venerable Śāriputra did tran...

Bringing this discussion about newspapers back to climate change. here is an article from 2016 in the Guardian, which predicts that there will be no more arctic ice in summers by january2017 or 2018 ( except in nooks and cranies) Does anyone know if the ice is all but gone? https://www.google.com.kw...

The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/au is the best of the "newspapers" IMO.
the Guardian is a leftist British newspaper, not an Auss one?

Robert, Is that slab of text all one quote, from the linked article? The link is paywalled, so I can't check.
