Hi everyone!
@ dylanj « Sun 7:10 am »
yes they’d certainly be preferable to many other options. unfortunate that it’s expensive
@ DNS « Sat 9:41 pm »
I’ve visited there, but not for any formal courses. I’ve heard they are expensive.

Not 100% theravada in the sense of having monastic teachers, but certainly theravada-inspired; they base their teachings off of Pali canon and have lay teachers like Kornfield, Salzberg, etc.

you guys who learned pali, did it at some point start making sense to you or did you learn the grammars for foundation? how did u learn it?
@ dylanj « Sat 8:05 am »
i was just talking to a bhikkhu who told me he’s been there

i am no fun irl either i am afraid, i invite people to reprimand me on account of me being confrontational if they see it fit
@ DNS « Fri 10:17 pm »
dylanj, how about Spirit Rock in Marin County? Too far away?
@ rightviewftw « Fri 10:08 pm »
nice the chat works
@ rightviewftw « Fri 10:08 pm »
it is tough
@ Nicolas « Fri 8:59 pm »
I will take my leave, now. May all be well.
@ Nicolas « Fri 8:54 pm »
Buddhism falls apart if you take away rebirth and kamma, in my opinion.
@ Nicolas « Fri 8:54 pm »
I don’t believe so, no.
@ Dhammarakkhito « Fri 8:53 pm »
is secular buddhism actually buddhism?
@ Nicolas « Fri 8:51 pm »
It’s so easy to be confrontational on the internet. I’m sure if we brought together all the more "edgy" posters in real life, they’d all be very friendly to each other. Aren’t we all Buddhists, after all?
@ dylanj « Fri 8:47 pm »
i am guilty in that regard so hope i can learn to tone down a bit here
@ dylanj « Fri 8:45 pm »
yes that’s a good point
@ Nicolas « Fri 8:45 pm »
This chat is nice, it definitely creates more "proximity", almost emulating an actual live conversation, which would lead one to avoid confrontational behavior which is unfortunately very present on the forum.
@ Nicolas « Fri 8:44 pm »
Excellent.
@ dylanj « Fri 8:42 pm »
there aren’t many details but it looks like it’s annual, just for a few days
@ dylanj « Fri 8:41 pm »
@ dylanj « Fri 8:41 pm »

@ Nicolas « Fri 8:41 pm »
Tell me more about this 8-precept program. A kind of practice group that meets regularly and discusses their 8-precept practice?
@ Nicolas « Fri 8:39 pm »
Finally, Will Kabat-Zinn (son of Jon) on Sundays at a yoga studio in Berkeley: https://www.ashtangayogaberkeley.com/me ... abat-zinn/

@ dylanj « Fri 8:39 pm »
I don’t have any plans at the moment but I keep updated on some of the events offered in the city so we’ll see
@ Nicolas « Fri 8:38 pm »
(This is my first time using this chat, I’m not used to Buddhist chatting! Just making some light conversation.)

There’s sfinsight.org, apparently they have things on Sunday evenings and Wednesday evenings.
@ Nicolas « Fri 8:35 pm »
Have you had a chance to go to Abhayagiri or Wat Metta?
@ Nicolas « Fri 8:34 pm »
I remember looking up things in San Francisco because I considered moving there.

@ dylanj « Fri 8:34 pm »

@ dylanj « Fri 8:34 pm »
Yes I’m in SF. There are many Buddhist centers here, the vast majority are mahayana & the only theravada one with real resources for english speakers doesnt focus much on meditation
@ Nicolas « Fri 8:33 pm »
It’s going well!
@ Nicolas « Fri 8:33 pm »
Any nice meditation centers in San Francisco?
