Wat Boonyawad

Post by Cormac Brown »

Hello,
I'm planning a visit to Wat Boonyawad soon, with an eye to requesting ordination. Has anyone here visited and could offer advice on getting there from Bangkok? It's not featured on the English Google maps!

Thank you,

Cormac

Yes that's the one. It advises getting a private driver, but I'm wondering if anyone knows a cheaper way..

You should already have this link - http://www.watboonyawad.com/new/index.p ... Itemid=154

You have the option of getting a minibus from either Eakamai or Bangna (should be about 100 baht). it is recomended that you get the mini bus from Bangna jungtion because of the traffic you will encounter from Eakamai. You need to tell them that you want to get off at Chalearm Thai in Chonburi. From there you get the bus that shows Chonburi - Bothong, (should be about 35 baht) and tell them you want to get off at Bothong market - Tarad Bothong in Thai. You can print off this map to help you get directions from the locals.

i hope this is of some assistance to you.

Also, if anyone has other, more general advice about visiting Wat Boonyawad, it'd be very welcome. In particular, where the nearest place to renew one's visa might be, how to get there etc. And if anyone reads Thai, any help with deciphering any relevant information on the website, particularly regarding ordination, would be much welcomed!

The web site is not very informative from what i could see - which may be a good indicator.

You could contact the wat directly on : Telephone +66 87 999 6154. between 9 AM-12 AM
or; email: [email protected]

Maybe we could assit you more if you tell us what you plans are and provide a list of questions that you want/need answered.

I just read the Ajahn Dtun Biography from that link, and from what I can surmise, even before ordaining he wasn't a 'run-of-the-mill' person, imho. Sounds to me like he might have practiced the Buddha-Dhamma before this lifetime as well...in any case he sounds very impressive.

Does anyone know how the visa situation might work upon ordaining? Where would I renew it, would the monastery organise it..etc

Prior to ordination it's advisable to have at least a three month Non-Immigrant 'O' visa...after ordination the temple will issue a 'bisuti' (a monk's ID), and with that it is possible to renew the visa for one year...the temple will assist with the paperwork to register with the Buddhist bureaucracy and Immigration...
