Some of even our most respected members here at DW have related their aversion to the smilies that appear to the right as we type our replies. Well I have a confession to make: I like them!!! They add some colour and fun to the Forum. Or maybe they cater just a bit to the kid in us all. But like my youngest child who loves the little characters and their various antics and expressions, I must admit I like the fact that they are there to choose from, in fact I wouldn't mind if even more were added muahaha

They are visually annoying, though fortunately I have mostly tuned them out.manas wrote:Some of even our most respected members here at DW have related their aversion to the smilies that appear to the right as we type our replies. For anyone that doesn't know:
Under the User Control Panel -> Board preferences -> Edit display options -> Display smilies as images (OFF)

Re: In defence of smilies
Well we all have our particular habitual tendencies, likes and dislikes... and even those will go the way of all fabricated things, one day... but for now, I guess we don't see smilies in the same way Tilt, that's just how it is!tiltbillings wrote:Of course. Smileys?
“No lists of things to be done. The day providential to itself. The hour. There is no later. This is later. All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one's heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes.”
- Cormac McCarthy, The Road

Well that put a stop to the conversation pretty quickly.
Perhaps I'll use that tactic the next time a thread goes off-topic!

We will have to rectify that omission.
In the meantime, Ceiling Cat better watch out for Merlin.

Re: In defence of smilies
I don't mind the odd one. Usually a or a similarly unobtrusive one. When they're absolutely everywhere throughout the post it gets to be a bit much for my liking.
