Any recommendations for male US practitioner ordaining in the Theravada practice here in the US (in the lineage of Sri Lankan, Burmese or Malaysian)?
Also what temple or monasteries abroad would welcome a Western male practitioner (in the lineage of Sri Lanka, Burmese or Malaysian)?
Thank you for your insights and recommentations.
Ordination in the US Monastery...?
Re: Ordination in the US Monastery...?
bhavana society is founded by a sri lankan monk.
there are some burmese monateries, but seem to usually have only burmese monks. there's sitagu in austin and one in santa cruz mountains (forgot the name, but it seems more practice oriented)
of coures, there's a lot of great thai forest monasteries.
good luck

Just keep breathing in and out like this. Don't be interested in anything else. It doesn't matter even if someone is standing on their head with their ass in the air. Don't pay it any attention. Just stay with the in-breath and the out-breath. Concentrate your awareness on the breath. Just keep doing it. http://www.ajahnchah.org/book/Just_Do_It_1_2.php
Re: Ordination in the US Monastery...?
I'm biased but your best bet might be a Thai forest monastery. There's lots of those throughout the UK, as well as one in US. Lots of westerners have found a home in that community.
Re: Ordination in the US Monastery...?
With regard to Bhavana Society, there is a progression of practice to ordination. First living there as a layperson for at least a year, then becoming anagarika for an indeterminate period of time, then progressing to novice for at least a year, etc. So it's a long process to ordination.
If you are looking for ordination as you suggested, to go all the way and already sure of that, it seems easier to go to Asia like http://www.watpahnanachat.org/ordaining.php They have a similar process but it's much faster.
