Books carved into shape of a cave temple

Post by James the Giant »

This guy, Guy Laramee, makes amazing stuff from books. Here's a Buddhist themed one I wanted to share.

Wow! Thanks for sharing, James.
“No lists of things to be done. The day providential to itself. The hour. There is no later. This is later. All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one's heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes.”
- Cormac McCarthy, The Road

in mountain clefts and chasms,
loud gush the streamlets,
but great rivers flow silently.

To use books for this decorative purpose is brute stupidity. I would call it vandalism, except for the fact that this would be slandering the real Vandals. They were never THAT stupid.

That's pretty amazing. Though it does feel like sacrilege.
"If beings knew, as I know, the results of giving & sharing, they would not eat without having given, nor would the stain of miserliness overcome their minds. Even if it were their last bite, their last mouthful, they would not eat without having shared."

I think the books are old encyclopaedias, of which plenty can be found at your local junk shop, last stop before the garbage dump.
They have an enormous pile of crappy old britannicas and World Books at my local Rags 2 Riches Op Shop. $5 a set, and that's optimistic - they'll be thrown in the recycling before long.
Better to use them for art than feed the anaerobic bacteria in a landfill.

I used to think all books should be treated with care and respect, but then I read Dan Brown.

I see. I apologize for overreacting a bit.

Beautiful!

Are they for sale? I know, craving, but I would be interested in the Buddhist themed art works; i.e., wholesome craving . . .

Some of the comments were kind of funny. (Warning: not pc):
