Zen School recommendation?

Post by Mr.SeanStewart »

Hello Dhamma lovers :)

I am wondering if any one here has a recommendation for a zen school in Japan?

Im trying to plan my future trips and i feel im interested to attend a zen school in japan, I was thinking of doing Soto zen, inspired by the book "zen mind begginers mind" but im open to all suggestions.

I also heard of a zen teacher in india called Father .... (something) who i m considering visiting.

any thoughts or suggestion is welcome, thanks again

I believe the sister site here would be of better assistance...

Three Zen teachers in Japan that I've heard good things about are Shodo Harada, Muho Roshi and Jeff Shore, but have no personal experience with any of them.

In true Zen fashion, I'm going to recommend sitting and figuring this one out yourself!
May all beings be happy!

I suggest Soto Zen, founded by Master Dōgen Zenji.

The Shōbōgenzō may be a good (but challenging) text to start with.

dogen zen
there is a suzuki roshi lineage temple you can stay at in japan.
or brad warner's lineage temple. i don't know names but emails and internet will tell you.
Just keep breathing in and out like this. Don't be interested in anything else. It doesn't matter even if someone is standing on their head with their ass in the air. Don't pay it any attention. Just stay with the in-breath and the out-breath. Concentrate your awareness on the breath. Just keep doing it. http://www.ajahnchah.org/book/Just_Do_It_1_2.php

Sean, if you're going to be in Japan, consider Taisho University.
