Refuge Chant

Post by sattva »

Does anyone know if there is a place online where i can listen to this chant to learn the pronunciation? With the blessings of my zen teacher, I am attending a mindfulness day held by a Bhante here in town on Saturday. This chant just came in an email to learn for Saturday.
Thanks :anjali:

This is a really detailed guide that helped me a lot, but I'm sure someone more immediately knowledgable can give you a better breakdown for the specific text here.

Generally the "c" will be a "ch" sound and the "v" will be a "wuuh" sound - those ones threw me off a lot until I realized!
Gain and loss, status and disgrace,
censure and praise, pleasure and pain:
these conditions among human beings are inconstant,
impermanent, subject to change.

Knowing this, the wise person, mindful,
ponders these changing conditions.
Desirable things don’t charm the mind,
undesirable ones bring no resistance.

His welcoming and rebelling are scattered,
gone to their end,
do not exist.

Oh I feel stupid, I misread. Here's a video of a woman reading it!

It doesn't have the first part though. Good luck!

Here is a good video online. It's in Pali and if you click on the closed caption button, it will put up subtitles in Pali and in English.

The non-doing of any evil,
The performance of what's skillful,
The cleansing of one's own mind:
This is the Buddhas' teaching.
