Early Buddhist Theory of Knowledge, by K.N. Jayatilleke

David Kalupahana, a student of Jayatilleke, expanded on a theme of empirical knowledge found in the Sabbasutta (SN. 35.23), with comparison to Nikāya and Āgama versions, not cited in Jayatilleke's work:

A Tract on Empiricism, by D.J. Kalupahana: Philosophy East and West, Vol. 19, No. 1 (Jan., 1969) pp.. 65-67
I say, beware of all enterprises that require new clothes, and not rather a new wearer of clothes.” – Henry David Thoreau, Walden, 1854

"I don't envision a single thing that, when developed & cultivated, leads to such great benefit as the mind. The mind, when developed & cultivated, leads to great benefit."

"I don't envision a single thing that, when undeveloped & uncultivated, brings about such suffering & stress as the mind. The mind, when undeveloped & uncultivated, brings about suffering & stress."
