Post by yawares »

Dear Members,

Now Texas weather is like roller-coaster...yesterday 90F..today 66F..but I love it cold, so fresh/breezy! Yesterday I watched "RED CORNER" starring Richard Gere (my favorite actor/Buddhist).

Richard Gere stars as Jack Moore, a high-powered American attorney (Richard Gere) who finds the rules of order are different in a Chinese courtroom when he is arrested and falsely accused of murdering Lin Cheng (Tzi Ma), a seductive young model, and daughter of a powerful General (Tsai Chin). Discovering that the rule of thumb is guilty before proven innocent, he realizes that he must convince his court-appointed attorney Shen Yuelin (Bai Ling, in a quietly powerful role) that he is blameless before he can even begin to convince the court. Moore struggles to endure torturous prison conditions as he slowly begins to prove his innocence to Shen Yuelin, who is forced to question the teachings of the cultural revolution and the court's condemnation of an innocence man. Together they must fight to find evidence that has disappeared, while risking their own lives in a city seething with enemies. As they begin to uncover the scandal behind the murder of Li Cheng they must fight the rules of the old guard in a battle for life and free will. A seductive thriller, that includes beautiful footage of Beijing and rural China.

Love love this movie

Dear "Modus.Ponens",

So true...so true...I watched it at least 4 times so far, I bought the DVD 3 years ago to replace my old video tape.

Blockbuster action director Michael Bay delivers a striking look at a strange world of the future in this sci-fi action drama. Midway through the 21st century, Lincoln Six Echo (Ewan McGregor) lives in a confined indoor community after ongoing abuse of the Earth has rendered most of the planet uninhabitable. One of the only places in the outside world still capable of sustaining life is an idyllic island where citizens are chosen to live through a lottery. Or at least that's what Lincoln and his fellow citizens are taught to believe; the truth is that Lincoln, like everyone he knows, is actually a clone who is kept under wraps to provide needed organs when the person who supplied his or her DNA falls ill. When he becomes aware that his existence is a fraud, Lincoln escapes to the outside world with a fellow clone, Jordan Two Delta (Scarlett Johansson), though the powers that be are determined to see that no one gets away alive. The Island also stars Steve Buscemi, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Sean Bean.

Ewan McGregor is perfectly cast as Lincoln Six Echo, using his boyish charm, good looks and manner to lend the necessary credibility of innocence to his character. The charismatic Scarlett Johansson finds just the right note, as well, to bring her character, Jordan Two Delta, to life. Bay gives each of his actors, in turn, a moment in which to define their respective characters and underscore the plausibility of the film, and when that time comes they each succeed in a way that sustains the interest in the story beyond the action and the F/X. Excellent performances by both McGregor and Johansson.
