Washington, VA, Penn: September 2012 Meditation Retreats

Postby Jhana4 » Sat Jun 23, 2012 7:58 pm

Sayalay Susila Meditation And Dhamma Retreats Coming In 2012 September to the Washington D.C. Metro Area, Richmod VA and Pennsilvania
In reading the scriptures, there are two kinds of mistakes:
One mistake is to cling to the literal text and miss the inner principles.
The second mistake is to recognize the principles but not apply them to your own mind, so that you waste time and just make them into causes of entanglement.

Thanks for this news. Do you know if she is a fully ordained (311 precepts) bhikkhuni or is she an 8 to 10 precept nun? (just curious)

Hi Chris,

Thanks.

She was born in the state of Pahang, Malaysia and was ordained in 1991 as a nun at the age of 28, at the
Malaysian Buddhist Meditation Centre in Penang, (MBMC) Malaysia.

It doesn't say for sure in that bio -- it mentions the year 1991 and I don't believe there were any full ordinations yet in 1991? But her robes appear to be those of a fully ordained bhikkhuni.

The dark brown robes are worn by some Theravada 8/10 precept nuns in forest monestaries in Myanmar. Have not yet heard of the ordination of any full bhikkhunis in that country.
