Suicide, killing, perfection of virtue

Post by Alex123 »

Hello all,

Suttas say how sila is of paramount importance.

Is suicide (killing of oneself) breaking the first precept ?

If so, how could Godhika, Channa, or Vakkhali commit suicide and reach parinibbana?

Here's an interesting essay of Piya Tan on Channovada sutta

Those three suttas are interesting.

How quickly after breaking the first precept can one become an Arahant?

If almost immediately (cutting your jugular doesn't give you much time), then what does it mean to have perfected sila?

Thinking about it, how much time do you have after cutting your jugular?
