Weekend Retreat at
The Gainesville Retreat Center, 1551 SE 51st street, Gainesville, Florida 32641 April 18th 2014 to April 20th 2014

Venerable Bhante Saddhasara Thero will be the teacher during the weekend Retreat. Bhante Saddhasara is a Theravada monk from Mahamevnawa Meditation Monastery in Sri Lanka. He studied Dhamma and Meditation under Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero, the founder of Mahamevnawa. He is in his second year of bringing Buddha's original Dhamma to the United States.

The Gainesville Retreat Center is located at 1551 SE 51st St, Gainesville, Florida 32641. It is situated on a 107 acre wildlife refuge with miles of hiking trails. Sleeping rooms accommodate two people comfortably. Camping and RV hookups are available. A new 1200 square foot meditation hall will open January 1, 2014

Style of Practice
The weekend retreat will be conducted in the Theravādha tradition with a focus on the “Letting go of Anger”, following the original teachings of the Buddha and his meditation practice. This includes sitting meditation, walking meditation and mindfulness in every action.

Instructions and guidance for all meditators will include a discourse by Venerable Bhante Saddhasara Thero, as well as individual interviews, during which each meditator will be able to discuss their meditation experiences with the Bhante.

During the retreat, all yogis are expected to practice with a high level of commitment, effort, and dedication. The daily practice begins at 5:30 AM and ends at 9:00 PM.

All meditators are requested to arrive at the Retreat Center by 11:30 am on April 18th to participate in pre-retreat orientation.


The Eight Precepts

All yogis are expected to observe the traditional eight precepts during the retreat:

1. Harmlessness: not intentionally taking the life of any living creature
2. Trustworthiness: not taking anything that is not given
3. Chastity: refraining from any sexual activity
4. Right Speech: avoiding false, abusive, or malicious speech
5. Sobriety: not taking any intoxicating drinks or drugs
6. Renunciation: not eating after midday
7. Restraint: not wearing make-up, jewelry or immodest clothing; not playing music or musical instruments; refraining from dancing, singing, and the use of adornments and ornaments
8. Alertness: refraining from using high and luxurious seats and beds
Meditators are required to strictly adhere to the rules of the Meditation center and to practice diligently, according to the instructions given by their teacher.


Noble Silence
During the course of the retreat, Meditators are asked to maintain strict “noble silence” -- that is, not engaging in any talk with each other, or with anyone else, unless it is really necessary.

Dress
Meditators are expected to dress conservatively and to refrain from wearing sleeveless shirts, tank tops, shorts or short skirts. Female yogis are required to wear long skirts /loose trousers or dresses and blouses with sleeves. Avoid wearing tight fitting clothes. Male yogis may wear white shirts and white pants.


Items to bring
Please bring your own toiletries, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, soap, shampoo, razors, mirror, hairbrush and nail clippers.

Meditators may also wish to bring a watch, an alarm clock, and vitamin supplements, as well as any prescribed medicines.
