I find this quote in few places on the Web:
'
I do not say that you can attain purity by views, tradition, insights, morality or conventions; nor will you attain purity without them. But by using them for abandonment, rather than as positions to hold on to, you will come to be at peace without the need to be anything.'
Sutta Nipata v. 848
Translation: Ven. Saddhatissa
I tried looking for Sn V.848 everywhere I could, even in Ven. Saddhatissa book, and I can't find it. Can anyone help?

It is verse 839 in Venerable Saddhātissa's translation, but 845 in the Pāli text. (Sister Sirpaññā's blog

It is found in the Māgaṇḍiya Sutta.
“Na diṭṭhiyā na sutiyā na ñāṇena, (māgaṇḍiyāti Bhagavā)
Sīlabbatenāpi na suddhimāha.
Adiṭṭhiyā assutiyā añāṇā,
Asīlatā abbatā nopi tena.
Ete ca nissajja anuggahāya,
Santo anissāya bhavaṃ na jappe.”
