Books similar to "opening the door of your heart"

Post by MrLearner »

Hello everyone,

Are there any books similar "to opening the door of your heart" by Ajahn Brahm. I like the format of this book, with plenty of stories rather than preaching. If they are free if u can give me the link of the pdf, if not free just list the name. Thank you :)

Hello samtheman,

Ajahn Brahms has another book "who ordered this truckload of dung?" which contains stories. If you do a google search on the title you should find a free download somewhere.

Hi Chris,

Who Ordered this Truckload of Dung is not a different book. It is the American title of Opening the Door to your Heart, with American spelling and some minor edits to account for idiomatic differences between different dialects of English...

I recall AB commenting in one of his talks about the changes that the American publisher thought were necessary, but I've no idea where to find that talk amongst the hundreds that he has on the internet. There are 324 here at this point:

Actually there are some other AB books on the Dhammaloka site that might be worth investigating:

Just a warning with other AB books: the three I've read have all been really different in tone. If you want stories, humour and gentleness, maybe don't plunge right in to The Art of Disappearing . . .

Thanks for the replies :) I will check that list mike .

I'm not specifically looking for Ajahn Brahm books, but more towards buddhist books with a similar format. Are their buddhist books with similar short stories like this. Thanks :)

It occurs to me that it might be worth asking this on our Mayahana sister site http://dharmawheel.net/ or on http://www.zenforuminternational.org/
I may be wrong, but it's my impression that the Mayahana traditions are more into these sort of inspirational stories than Theravada is.

Stories of Thien by Ven. Sister Hue Can

http://www.dhammaloka.org.au/articles/i ... thien.html

For those that may not be familiar, Thien is the Vietnamese way of saying Zen (or Chan in Chinese, Jhana in Pali).
A true master of knowledge has passed beyond all that is known and become dispassionate towards all vedanās.

I wonder if something a bit longer like this might also be of interest: Dipa Ma
It's still pretty short, and I found it very beautiful. It's basically the life of a very inspirational Buddhist master.
