how much of it is clearly derived from the canon and how much of it is of later development? in my reading of it (which was short and jumped around) i found that most is from the canon and some things are nearly identical but are tweaked and reinterpreted. i only noticed a few things that were not also in the canon such as counting the breath. then there's things that are from the canon that were never fleshed out, like kasina practice, so they are unique but it's because they were never explained in detail in the first place. but again, i didn't read the whole thing.
one specific thing i'm unclear on is: are the seven stages of purification found in the canon?
