panna as one of the mental factors/states

Post by jorden »

Am I correct in understanding that in abhidhamma panna as cetasika is neutral, i.e. not virtuous or non-virtuous?

Panna cetasika, wisdom, is exclusively kusala, wholesome.

Hi Jorden.
Perhaps you were think of virya ( energy) or Chanda ( zeal? desire to act?) which can be either kusala or akusala as can others.
Kammalakkhano , bhikkhave, bālo, kammalakkhano pandito, apadānasobhanī paññāti

Thanks for the replies. In mahayana abhidharma prajna is one of the 5 object ascertaining mental factors (viṣayaniyata) and as such not intrinsically virtuous or non-virtuous (if I understood correctly). This seems to be a difference with abhidhamma.
