Do you mean bodhisattva in the Theravada tradition or bodhisattva in the Mahayana tradition?

In Mahayana, a bodhisattva is one who has taken a vow to postpone their own enlightenment until they can assist all sentient beings to become enlightened. So a bodhisattva, be definition, is one who NOT a buddha yet.
