Scientific Reincarnation Research:

A not unusual and now verified fact:
Children can have verifiable past life memories that can be independently
corroborated. They can tell about specific names, places and events that they
never can had a chance to ever know about anything, since all these events
happened before their birth! These specifics can be confirmed by going back
years in the public records. Birth marks and birth defects can show up in situ
of the weapon or accidental wounds that caused their often sudden, unusual,
violent, or traumatic death. To reject these data is dogmatism and not science..

Dr. Ian Stevenson's presentation is here:

Banal yet Paradigmatic shift in conceptual framework:
Since the quantum-mechanical principle of discrete non-locality can be applied
unambiguously to all quanta of energy and thus ALSO all information (entropy)
and thereby the very consciousness, that contains and embeds that information,
then is the transmigration of consciousness from one body to another just as banal
as the quantum jump of the electron from one atomic orbit to another orbit without
ever being in between these 2 orbits! This electron jump happens billions of times per
second in your light bulb. You could thus not see anything without it! This consciousness
jump happens billions of times per second in your body and brain. You could not live or
even exist without it! So why be silly and not accept such a common, ubiquitous and also
ultra-frequent plain-fact phenomena? Huh! Better examine it properly and completely...

A Love Supreme..

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

On True Love (A Doctors observation):

Image

It was approximately 8.30 a.m. on a busy morning when an elderly gentleman in
his eighties arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He stated that
he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9.00 a.m.
I took his vital signs and had him take a seat. I knew it would take more than
an hour before someone would to be able to attend to him. I saw him check his
watch anxiously for the time and decided to evaluate his wound, since I was
not busy with another patient. On examination, the wound was well healed.
Hence, I talked to one of the doctors to get the supplies to remove his sutures
and redress his wound. We began to engage in a conversation, while I was taking
care of his wound. I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment later as
he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, and said that he needed to
go to the nursing home to have breakfast with his wife.
I inquired about her health. He told me that she had been in the nursing home
for a while as she was a victim of Alzheimer's disease. I probed further and
asked if she would be upset, if he was slightly late. He replied that she no longer
knew who he was, and that she had not been able to recognize him since five
years ago. I asked him in surprise, "And you still go every morning, even though
she doesn't know who you are?" Then he smiled as he patted my hand and said,
"She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is!" ;-)

I had to hold back my tears as he left. I had goose bumps on my arm, and I thought,
"That is the kind of love I want in my life." True love is neither physical, nor romantic.
True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, was not, will be, and will not ever be…

Infinite is Loving-Kindness!

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friendly Loving Kindness Beams, Blazes and Shines!

Image

Metta is defined thus: Loving-Kindness has the mode of friendliness as characteristic.
Its natural function is to promote friendliness. It manifests as disappearance of ill-will.
Its source is seeing with kindness. When succeeding, then it eliminates all angry enmity.
When it fails, then it degenerates into egocentric lust and desire. It can be practiced
anywhere and at anytime, but ideally sitting cross-legged in a quiet secluded place and
then whole-heartedly wishing, first beaming it out in front, then to the right, then back,
then to the left and finally below and above in this very effective and exhaustive way:
May I be happy and free from suffering...
May I keep myself free from hostility, trouble and thereby live happily...
May I become happy in this way by repeated training of this excellent goodwill praxis...
Just as I want happiness, absence of pain, life and not death, so do all other beings!
Therefore: May all beings become thus happy...
May all breathing things become thus happy...
May all creatures become thus happy...
May all deities become thus happy...
May all human beings become thus happy...
May all who have form become thus happy...
May all the Noble and not Noble become thus happy...
May all those in the states of deprivation become thus happy...
By being freed from all enmity, distress & anxiety, may they thus guide themselves to bliss."

Image

The blessed Buddha often pointed out:
Bhikkhus, whatever kinds of worldly merit there are, all are not worth one 16th part of the
release of mind by infinitely universal friendliness: In shining, beaming, glow & radiance the
release of mind by infinite, immeasurable and inexhaustible friendliness far excels them all!

Hey Friend: Refine your Mind!

Image

Every friend is an extension of me. Every friend has taught me what I am.
How can I not be thankful to those friends, who cared me, loved me,
and gave me a warm experience of the feeling of love?
How can I not be thankful to those friends, who made me feel that I am
so beautiful, and given me the feeling of being on the top of the world?
How can I not be thankful to those friends, who has given me the knowledge
and helped me to stand in front of the world with the feeling of security.
How can I not be thankful to those friends, who went away from me and
gave me the experience of detachment from loved ones and loneliness?
How can I not be thankful to those friends, who cheated me and thereby
gave me the experience of the feelings of hate and anger?
How can I not be thankful to those friends, who left me and found another
friend and thereby gave me experience of jealousy?
How can I not be thankful to those friends, who put me down and made me
inferior by showing my weakness, giving me the experience of deprivation?
How can I not be thankful to ALL those friends, who just made me think
that my mind is in the control of others and nothing is in my own control?
One day I sat in the corner of my room, thinking and thinking, looking here
and there, and then saw what: A glance at a book of Buddha!

Image

How can I not be thankful towards the Buddha who explained me compassion.
My dear friend, destroy these mental seeds of those feelings that control your mind.
Why don’t you try to destroy these mental seeds of hate?
Why don’t you try to destroy these mental seeds of anger?
Why don’t you try to destroy these mental seeds of jealousy?
Why don’t you try to destroy these mental seeds of greed?
Why don’t you try to destroy these mental seeds of laziness?
Why don’t you try to destroy these mental seeds of clinging?

Image

These emotions are very harmful to your mind…
Reform your mind my dear friend!
Dhamma will teach you, how to reform nothing other than your mind!

Wonderful it is to train the mind,
so swiftly moving, seizing whatever it wants.
Good is it to have a well-trained mind,
for a well-trained mind brings happiness.

Starving the Hindrances!

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

What is Starving of the Mental Hindrances?

Image

At Savatthi the Blessed Buddha once explained:
What, friends, is the starvation, that prevents the arising of Sense-Desire,
and blocks growth of already arisen Sense-Desire?
It is frequent and careful attention to the Disgusting Features of things!
This starvation prevents sensual lust from arising & reduces present greed…

And what, friends, is the starvation that prevents the arising of Ill-Will and
which also hinders aggravation and inflation of any already arisen Ill-Will?
It is frequent, careful and rational attention to Universal Friendliness!
This starvation prevents aversion from arising and evaporates present anger…

And what is the starvation, that prevents arising of Lethargy-&-Laziness,
and which also eliminates already present Lethargy-&-Laziness?
It is attention to these 3 elements of: Initiative, Launching, and Endurance!
This starvation prevents sloth from arising & stops already present laziness.

And what is the starving that prevents arising of Restlessness-&-Regret,
and retards escalation of already present Restlessness-&-Regret?
It is frequent attention to this sweet, calm and peaceful Tranquillity of Mind!
This starvation prevents upsetting of the mind, and reduces anxiety and worry…

What is the starvation that prevents the arising of Doubt-&-Uncertainty,
and which also stops proliferation of already present Doubt-&-Uncertainty?
It is frequent, careful, rational attention and evaluation of these 4 Dualities:
There are advantageous and disadvantageous states! There are blameable and
blameless states! There are ordinary and exalted states! There are bright and
dark mental states! This starvation prevents confusion of the mind, and it also
dampens escalation of any already arisen and present perplexity...

Comments:
Memorize and use as suitable substitution, whenever a hindrance is noted!

The All-Seeing Divine Eye..

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

How does one gain the Divine All-Seeing Eye?

Image

The Blessed Buddha once said:
Which concentration, Bhikkhus, when practised and developed often will lead
to gaining the divine eye of vast understanding (dibba-cakkhu ?
When the Bhikkhu reflects on experiencing light, fixes his mind on this perception
of daylight, always, both at day-time and also at night! In this way, with wakeful
and stainless mind, he develops a state of luminous consciousness accompanied by
a bright radiant inner mental light. This concentration, developed and practised
often indeed leads to the attainment of the eye of understanding (dibba-cakkhu) ...

Image

Visuddhimagga XIII, 95 says that this luminous state of mind is a prerequisite
condition for reaching the knowledge of the divine eye. This enlightening training
also evaporates all Lethargy-and-Laziness.

Alleviating all Anger..

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

Anger, Irritation, and Stubborn Contrariety!

ImageImageImage

Evil and ill-will is the mental hindrance, which is resisting against and
opposing phenomena. It can be quite violent when manifesting as quarrels,
conflict, hate, hostility and war. Aversion instantly destroys all harmony
and peace and thus any potential for happiness. It can only be cured by
meditation on the four infinitely divine states (Brahma-viharas).

First priority: Noticing evil Ill-Will arise -in itself- makes it fade away:
The Buddha said: When ill-will is present in him then he understands:
"There is ill-will in me now" and when ill-will is absent, he also notices:
"There is no ill-will in me now". He understands how unarisen ill-will arises.
He understands how to leave behind any arisen ill-will, and he understands
how left ill-will will not ever arise again in the future. MN 10

ImageImage

What is the feeding cause that makes ill-will arise?
There are displeasing and repulsive features and aspects of any object,
frequently giving irrational & unwise attention to them, this is the feeding
cause of the arising of unarisen ill-will, and the feeding cause of the very
increase and expansion of ill-will that already has arisen. SN 46:51

The 3 paranoid thoughts that induces resentment:
1: He or she has done, is doing or will in the future do me some wrong!
2: He or she has done, is doing or will do those I like some wrong!
3: He or she has done, is doing or will do those I dislike some good!

What is the starving cause that makes ill-will cease?
There is the release of mind through Universal Good-Will and Friendliness,
frequently giving rational and wise attention to this is the starving cause
of the non-arising of unarisen ill-will, and the starving cause of decrease
and shrinking of ill-will that already has arisen. SN 46:51

Which medicine cures ill-will, so that it does not re-arise ever again?
One should cultivate the meditation on Universal Friendliness (Metta)!
For the meditation on universal friendliness gradually evaporates ill-will.
One should cultivate the meditation on All-embracing Pity (Karuna)!
Meditation on embracing pity, makes cruel harming violence fade away.
One should cultivate the meditation on Sympathetic Mutual Joy (Mudita)!
Meditation on mutual joy eliminates discontent, green envy and jealousy.
One should cultivate the meditation on composed Equanimity (Upekkha)!
Meditation on imperturbable equanimity can make anger & aversion cease.

Some advantageous reflections to return to:
Remember the Simile of the Saw... The Blessed Buddha once said:
Friends, even if bandits were to cut you up, savagely, limb by limb, with a
two-handled saw, you should not be angry with them but do my bidding:
Remain pervading them with a friendly mentality imbued only with an all
embracing good will, kind, rich, expansive, and immeasurable. Free from
hostility, free from ill will. Always remembering this Simile of the Saw
is indeed how you should train yourselves... MN 21

Being OWNER of ANGER is Pain: Know that everyone is the owner of the
consequences of all their actions (Kamma), whether good or bad...

ImageImage

The 11 advantages won by cultivating Universal Friendliness (Metta):
1: One sleeps happy!
2: One wakes happy!
3: One dreams no evil dreams!
4: One is liked and loved by all human beings!
5: One is liked and loved by all non-human beings too!
6: One is guarded and protected by the divine devas!
7: One cannot be harmed by fire, poison or weapons!
8: One swiftly attains the concentration of absorption!
9: Ones appearance becomes serene, calm and composed!
10: One dies without confusion, bewilderment or panic!
11: One reappears after death on the Brahma level if gone no higher!

The 7 Sets..

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

What are the 7 Sets, which produces Enlightenment?

Image

Before the Blessed Buddha Gotama (563-483 BC) was the good Buddha Kassapa, and
before him were the Buddhas: Konagamana & Kakusandha all in this universal eon!
Before them were there Buddhas: Vessabhu, Sikhi, Vipassi, Phussa, and Tissa,
Siddhattha, Dhammadassi, Atthadassi, Piyadassi, Sujata, and Sumedha,
Padumuttara, Narada, Paduma, Anomadassi, Sobhita, Revata, and Sumana,
Mangala, Kondañña, Dipankara, Saranankara, Medhankara & Tanhankara!
Even before them were an endless number of Buddhas, who all explained
these Seven Sets of Qualities Producing Enlightenment! What Seven?

1: The Four Foundations of Awareness
2: The Four Best Efforts
3: The Four Ways to Force
4: The Five mental Abilities
5: The Five mental Powers
6: The 7 Links to Awakening
7: The Noble 8-fold Way

All Buddhas in the future beginning with Metteyya will also explain these!
Those who stay here and pays attention will learn each single set of ability
to an extent he/she will not easily forget.. Thus is lasting progress ensured!!!
When the mirror is polished, then it produces an entirely perfect reflection
of the original supreme absolute...Therefore: Hang on here! Never Give Up!
May all sentient beings awaken into the ultimate peace, freedom & happiness!
Yeah!

Outstanding is Faith!

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

How is the Ability of Faith Outstanding?

Image

With the development of the ability of faith, enthusiasm arises. With the
elimination of all skeptical doubt, enthusiasm also arises. With the fading of
the frustration inherent in all skeptical doubt, enthusiasm indeed also arises.
With extinction of all mental obstructions, enthusiasm arises as a thunderbolt!
When via this energetic enthusiasm , gladness arises, then the ability of faith
is outstanding as a happy faith due to gladness... When through gladness, this
happiness arises, then the ability of faith is outstanding as due to happiness...
When through happiness tranquillity emerges, then the ability of faith is quite
outstanding due to this calmed & stilled tranquillity... When tranquil, a sweet
pleasure arises, then the faith ability is outstanding as faith due to delight..
When through pleasure illumination arises, then the ability of faith is indeed
outstanding as faith due to illumination... When through revealing illumination
a sense of urgency arises, then this single faith ability is outstanding as faith
due to the acute and vivid sense of urgency... When sensing urgency one can
concentrate the mind, then this ability of faith is outstanding as faith due to
concentration... When one now thoroughly trains the mind thus concentrated,
then this ability of faith is outstanding as faith due to an increased effort..
When one just looks on with complete equanimity at the mind thus wielded into
solid focus, then the faith ability is outstanding as faith due to equanimity.
When as a result of equanimity, the mind is liberated from many kinds of mental
obstructions, then the faith ability is outstanding as faith due to liberation...
When mind is all liberated, this mentally unified state come to have a single
function and taste, then the faith ability is outstanding as faith due to the
emergence of this single function and taste. When the mind is being cultivated
and thus refined, it therefore turns away from the primitive to what is superior,
namely towards Nibbana, then the faith ability is outstanding as faith due to
turning away. Then, because of mind remains turned away, one is now possessed
of the path! When one, as a consequence, relinquishes both all mental obstructions
and all clusters of clinging, then the faith ability is outstanding as faith due to
Relinquishment. When due to mental release, all the mental obstructions and the
5 clusters of clinging therefore cease with no re-arising trace remaining, then the
ability of faith is outstanding as faith due to complete Ceasing...

Phony Egocentrism...

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

Narcissism versus the Bliss of Impersonality:

Image

The notion of 'I Am' is a false assumption based on a longstanding conceit!
The notion of 'Mine' is a false assumption based on a deep, deep craving!
The notion of 'This is My Self' is a false assumption based on wrong view!

ImageImage

The mentally constructed idea of an internally existing, invisible yet stable,
same and independent entity of identity, being in full control and mastering
the individual, is rooted in an inflated false experience of self-importance!
This fabricated 'Ego' assuming an imaginary 'Self' rapidly becomes deeply
and tragically in love with itself... This 'auto-romance', even though merely
a hypothetical ideation, nevertheless demands to be gratified, praised and
respected without end, & therefore reacts violently towards any external
or internal threats against its postulated unique yet fictional magnificence!
The root of all EGOISM therefore starts right there when this conceptual
notion of 'I-Me-Mine-Myself-My-Identity-My-Personality' is born...!!!
The effects are well known as being wholly catastrophic both individually
socially, locally and globally, here and now, later and in much later lives...
They assumed existence of an Ego is thus the biggest invisible obstruction
and the worst covered calamity for any being in any world, whether divine
or human, whether high or low, whether past, present or in any far future...
Basically is this Self-belief based on an assumption that either is the body,
the feelings, the perceptions, the mental constructions, or consciousness
itself an 'embodiment' of an otherwise invisible and unobservable 'Self'..
This 'representational' ego entity is then exalted to be the center of the
universe... However, this self 'imaging' is merely a manifestation of simple
identification with and clinging to body form, social position, professional
occupation, and so called 'personal' possessions, which all are transient...
Such is this highly treacherous, dangerous, & tragic mental ego-projection.

ImageImage
Always gratifying an 'ego-me-self' that simply does not exist!

The primary self-deception is "I Am..."
Then comes the fermentation "I Am this and/or that..."
Finally is added "I Am better, worse, or equal to this & that!"
Yet this "I", that is assumed to be this or that, is not itself...

ImageImage
Selflessness versus overblown "I-am-Superior" Egoism!

The Blessed Buddha said:
From everywhere, above as below, set free & released, beyond the concept
of ‘I am this or that’, one has then crossed a river never crossed before...
Thus liberated, does one not renew any cyclic process of being.

Udana – Inspiration: VII - 1

Blissful is solitude for one who is content, learned & who sees the Dhamma.
More blissful is harmlessness towards all beings without any exception.
Even more blissful is freedom from all sensual craving whatsoever...
Yet, the supreme bliss, is the elimination of this abysmal conceit “I am”!’

Udana – Inspiration: II – 1

In the Sangha's Presence!

Contemplating the Unique Qualities of the Sangha:

Image

Perfectly training is this Noble Sangha community of the Buddha's Noble disciples!
Training the right way, the true way, the good way, the direct way! Therefore do
these eight kinds of individuals, these four Noble pairs, deserve both gifts, sacrifice,
offerings, hospitality & reverential salutation with joined palms, since this Noble Sangha
community of the Buddha's Noble disciples, is an unsurpassable and forever unsurpassed
field of merit, in this world, for this world, to honour, support, respect and protect...

Image

The blessed Buddha said:
As long as he recollects these special qualities of the Sangha in this way, defined
as 'having entered on the good way', then: On that occasion his mind cannot be
obsessed by greed, or obsessed by hate, or obsessed by delusion; his mind possess
an unassailable integrity, when being inspired by this Noble Sangha (AN III 286).
When a bhikkhu is devoted to this recollection of the Community, he is respectful
and deferential towards the Community. He attains fullness of faith! He has much
happiness and bliss. He conquers fear & dread. He is able to endure pain. He feels
as if he were living in the Sangha's presence. When dwelling in the recollection of
the Sangha's special qualities his body becomes indeed as worthy of veneration as
an Uposatha house, where the Sangha has met. His mind inclines only towards the
attainment of this Community's special qualities. Furthermore: When he encounters
an opportunity for transgression, he has awareness of conscience and shame as vivid
as if he were face to face with the elder Theras of the Noble Sangha. And if he can
penetrate no higher, he is at least headed for a happy destiny. Vism I 221

Image

Now when a man is truly wise,
His constant task will surely be,
This recollection of the Sangha,
Blessed with such mighty potency!
Vism I 218

EMERGENCE OF HARMONY
Pleasant is the arising of a Buddha.
Pleasant is the teaching of the Dhamma.
Pleasant is peace and unity in the Sangha.
Pleasant is the harmony of those united therein.

well awake & quite aware. Constantly they
meditate both day and night on the Sangha.

Just a Flash of Delight!

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

Sparse & short pleasure, but long Tribulation!

Image

Pleasures obtained by contact at the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body or mind
all fade away and vanish instantly, when their contact ceases! They are all:
Like a drop of honey on the edge of a razor blade: Short joy, but much pain!
Like a show seen in a flash of lightening: Momentary and exceedingly brief!
Like a drink made thin & tasteless: Dissatisfying, frustrating & disappointing!
Like food all rotten inside or poisoned: Afflicting and causing problems later!
Like a baited hook: First juicy, later torturing & tormenting and finally Fatal!
Like an inner prison: Encaging, punishing, bonding, addicting and making mad!
Like sleeping in an enemy's village: Dangerous, hazardous, treacherous & risky!
Like a burning hollow tree: Agitated inside, feverish, frantic, violently painful!
Like a chain of dry naked bare bones: Not healing any hunger, without nutrition!
Like many days of drinking only salt water: Worsening any thirst & drying out!
Please note the ceasing of sensation, whenever sensing & remember this danger!
This is the primary hindrance to break, the first flood to cross: Sense-Desire!

Image

As the blessed Buddha often pointed out:
Blissful is being without passions in this world,
Blissful is the overcoming of all sense-desires!

Intentions are Causal!

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

Phenomena are Causes, Effects, or Neither:

Image

Which are the mental states, that are causes?
Good and bad states, belonging to the worlds of sense desire, to the planes of
fine material form, to the formless realms, and to the supra-mundane states:
That is the cluster of feelings, perceptions, mental constructions and the
cluster of the manifold and variable kinds of consciousness...
These are the phenomena, which cause results!
Comment: Present mental states conditions and influences future events!

Image

Which are the mental states, that are effects?
The results of good and bad mental states, which make effects in the worlds
of sense desire, in the planes of fine material form, in the formless realms,
and in the supra-mundane states: That is the cluster of feelings, perceptions,
mental constructions & the cluster of the various types of consciousness...
These are the phenomena, which are results!
Comment: Mental states are often seeded by and results of past events!

Image

Which are the states, that neither are results nor cause results?
Those mental states governing action, which are neither good, nor bad!,
nor the results of other prior action, and moreover all form, and finally
the unconditioned element of Nibbana... These are the three phenomena,
which neither are results themselves, nor cause any other future effects!
Comment: Material form, Nibbana & inoperative neutral (Kiriya) actions
of the Arahats causes no future effects to arise anywhere at any time...
