What is this design?

Post by nomad »

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but does anyone know what this design is? I think it’s really neat, but can’t find a name or a larger version of it anywhere online. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :anjali:

That is a woman.
Rain soddens what is kept wrapped up,
But never soddens what is open;
Uncover, then, what is concealed,
Lest it be soddened by the rain.

A celestial nymph. Search google images for "apsara".
Yena yena hi maññanti,
tato taṃ hoti aññathā.

In whatever way they conceive it,
It turns out otherwise.

Welcome back Bhante!

:bow:

Should we take any significance from the fact that your first post after Rains is about celestial nymphs? :thinking:

Thanks, Mike, though I'm as yet only half back. I'm currently on the move around Thailand, settling my affairs here and saying goodbye to friends, in preparation for a move to Denmark. So internet access is quite irregular at the moment.

Well, you oughtn't to read too much significance into it, though coincidentally before logging in I was writing an e-mail to another monk on the subject of the Anguttara Nikaya's 7 methuna-sa.myogas ("sexual bonds" -- defects of the brahmacariya that are not as grave as sexual intercourse, though impediments all the same). The seventh bond is living the brahmacariya in the hope of obtaining rebirth as a deva in one of the sensual heavens.

Apsaras are dangerous. :jedi:

Best wishes,
