Hello,
Would it be possible to add to the toolbar the ability to use diacritical marks that would be useful for Pali words?
Many thanks to all the moderators for their good work on the site, and to whoever funds it.

Addition of diacritical marks
“I in the present who am a worthy one, rightly self-awakened, am a
teacher of action, a teacher of activity, a teacher of persistence. But the
worthless man Makkhali contradicts even me, (saying,) ‘There is no
action. There is no activity. There is no persistence.’ "

Re: Addition of diacritical marks
That sounds like a good idea. I'm not sure if that could be done, but I'll check.
Re: Addition of diacritical marks
Even if there was a way to have just text somewhere in the tool bar where the individual letters could be cut and pasted. That may be the easiest way.

Re: Addition of diacritical marks
Windows users who are into Buddhism can install a keyboard for typing Pāḷi with diacritical marks. It is so much quicker than cherry picking from a toolbar, though I am sure that that could be done somehow, and would work on most platforms.

There are multiple 'Keyboard Layout' folders on every OS X computer, which can be quite confusing. The one that is needed can be accessed by opening Finder, clicking 'Go' in the menu bar, 'Computer', 'Macintosh HD' (or whatever your hard drive is called), 'Library' and then 'Keyboard Layout'. Also follow the missing instructions on the VRI website.Dhammanando wrote:Mac users can install the EasyUnicode keyboard:

Re: Addition of diacritical marks
A simple text file to copy-and-paste can also be a method.

Re: Addition of diacritical marks
Finally, the best way on OS X (but slightly more complex) is to modify the press-and-hold feature. It's a bit more complicated, but very much worth it.
Follow the instructions from the following link (second answer starting with "In addition to simply...").

EDIT: Added the correct and better link.
If anyone has some difficulties trying to modify this, send me a PM.

Re: Addition of diacritical marks
Thanks Venerable for your good work on this keyboard. Unfortunately, much of the time I'm typing from a computer for which I have no administrative privileges, thus making it impossible to install it. For all in such a position a toolbar would be useful. Also, many will not hear of/wish to install a new keyboard. An option on the toolbar would be more likely to be used and thus improve the quality of Pali-language posting on the forum.Bhikkhu Pesala wrote:Windows users who are into Buddhism can install a keyboard for typing Pāḷi with diacritical marks. Re: Addition of diacritical marks
In my opinion it would hardly be used at all. Anyone posting significant amounts of Pāḷi would soon get fed up with clicking buttons. For those posts with only a few diacritics it hardly matters.Cormac Brown wrote:An option on the toolbar would be more likely to be used and thus improve the quality of Pali-language posting on the forum.
I suggest using the Velthuis encoding method for typing short passages: aa ii uu .d .m .n "n .t
For anything longer, cut and paste from Tipitaka.org or elsewhere would be much easier as it also avoids typing errors.
